Pontiac 1926-2010...Goodnight Sweet Prince

How was the new GTO junk? Rear wheel drive, 400hp (05-06), 6spd. Have you ever driven one? The LS engines are great and really easy to work on, and reliable. 500whp is easily obtainable with heads, cam, and exhaust. If we didn't have snowy winters, I wouldn't own a Subaru.
I think you should be banned for this comment.

But yes I have driving one and would never own one.

GTO is crap. Body style sucks. Resale sucks. The same year gto as my car with the same mileage as mine will only be worth about $5-$7k less than my 06 sti. Kind of crappy when the car new cost almost just as much as my sti.

Thing I really hated about pontiacs is that if you bought one you bought them all. I swear they use the same bumper on every single car they make along with the same headlamps.

Then the G8 came out and changed all that. the GT and GXP 420 HP 6.2 liter rear wheel drive and is a Pontiac that looks good and feels good to drive.

not sure about the same headlight/bumper thing aside from styling that you know is a pontiac... quite the same as subaru.

I see grill similarities.. but the GTO is the best pick out of those. Resale on all American cars sucks.

headlights and bumpers look different to me:lol:

but for a cheap way to get into 400hp 6spd manual that isn't actually a pontiac, it was a great option.

I just hope that they bring the HSV line over here now.

I was born in '78, so I missed the real Pontiac that you speak of.

The Pontiac that I grew to know was the stupid, ugly, worthless, rental-car crap that did them in. I have never considered owning - nor would I accept as a gift - a Pontiac. My best man from my wedding now drives a Pontiac, and I hate him for it.

On another note, "Anti Cop" and "Taco Pin" are anagrams of "Pontiac," so at least there's that.

So I could buy a GTO with 100 more horsepower than an STi for 5k less? So, I'll buy the GTO, put that 5k into the motor, and make that STi look like clown

Sorry but I'm a diehard V8 fan. There is NO replacement for displacement. None.

sounds like you need to go to the mullet and budwiser tottin mustang and camero forums not a subaru forum. You sure your not a lurker.

Its not all about the horsepower of your car. When you buy an sti you buy it for the all around package. Tell you what you take your gto and I take my sti and we can on a track and I would mop you up.

The whole no replacement for displacement is so 70's

There are plenty of 4 and 6 bangors that would mop up a V8 car.

Good example is the new skyline. It walks circles around you precious LS7 V8 Z06 vettes.

I was born in '76. Age has nothing to do with appreciating their past achievements. I am not a fan of the new GTO. It was/is too bland for the drivetrain. The same was said when the new STi was deduted.

Just because some folks don't like Domestics doesn't mean they're crap. The ford 302's and 351's were fantastic motors and people still build them up. The GM LS series are great motors too, with people swapping them into everything under the sun. Other folks still like mopar. The import crowd craps on domestics hard but there's some great stuff there and to not acknowledge that is foolish. Lets not forget the stuff coming out of Europe either.

I learned to drive stick in a camaro. I autocross a supercharged mustang in the summer and it's a blast. I neither have a mullet nor do I enjoy Bud as my go to beer, and to stereotype people as such is ridiculous. Every car enthusiast group has their idiots on their forums, not just mustang and camaros. I'm sure if you go on NASIOC you'll find some there too.

I don't only enjoy Subaru's and insist everything else is crap just because I drive one. I'm a huge fan of domestics, 4.0L era jeeps, and Subaru's. If you want to tell me to beat it because of that, go for it

I was in no way bashing all cars built in the U.S. I was bashing the gto.

I love the new G8 GT and GXP I would also love to get one of the new GT500's

I just hate the way some people are so die hard about there V8's and think they are the gods best gift to man and you cant make any car fast without them.

I was bashin the other guys because he pretty much is saying subaru's suck and if he didn't live in maine he would not own one.

Nobody said subarus suck.

all he said is that if we didn't have snow, he would own a GTO.

and I'm guessing that is because he could drive it year round like he does the subaru.

Thanks Pedro! Don't get me wrong, I love my Subaru. BUT if we had warm weather I would have a V8/RWD car as a daily driver. I never said Subarus were crap, they make great cars. If I thought that I wouldn't have bought one. And maybe some of you don't quite understand why there is no replacement for displacement. More cubic inches makes more power. Period. There is nothing to argue about. You can take a smaller engine and SUBSTITUTE for displacement with forced induction, but you are still playing catch-up. Bigger engines will always make more torque and have a flatter power curve. And by the way, the ZR1 Corvette ran a best around Nurburgring of 7:24.4, beating the GTR's time of 7:26.7. Close, but no cigar. Sorry kid.

Dude your comparing a $75k car to a $120k car I was comparing the Z06 to the GTR which run about the same price GTR has less horse power but outruns it on the track.

Yes I love my sti. Yes you can make big numbers with a bigger engine usually for cheaper than smaller engines.

Regardless of our diffrence Pontiac still sucks for the most part besides the G8 is about the only car they have worthy for sale right now.

LOL, omg. You have to love how cheesy late 80's and early 90's commerials were.

Pontiac has two cars I would own right now.

The G8 GXP and the Solstice GXP. but neither are actual GM products. the same as the GTO was.

G8= Holden

GTO=Holden

Solstice=Opel

Yea I kinda liked the Solstice gxp. I didnt really care for the looks but for an inexpensive starter track/drift car it was gaining on the miata.

I wouldn't mind a G8 or a Solstice both are nice cars that put down so nice numbers. I have driven both of these cars and I like the interior and the looks of both. Like I stated before gto is not for me.

I've driven a naturally aspirated automatic Solstice. It was a turd. Driver postion sucks. A-pillars are huge and hard to see around. There is about enough room in the trunk for a lunchbox. Interior is cheesy and looks like a rental car. The only reason I would own one is for a LSx/T56 swap
default_rolleyes.gif
. Drives like a Cobalt. I've heard the turbo ones are pretty stout, has anyone driven one?

is that a comparison with any other convertable roadster?

the miata trunk is a bit bigger, and the auto's take the fun out of any RWD two seater. Pillars have to be huge to take roll over.

I've driven a lot of Corvettes- coupes, convertibles, and hardtops and all have more trunk space than the Solstice. The Vette A-pillars aren't gigantic. I think the Solstice could be made much better. The base Solstice shares the 2.2L engine with the Cobalt. I know the 5 speed would help some, but I would not recommend the N/A 2.2 to anyone. It is reliable, but bagless.

ok, but the solstice is in the same class as the S2000 and Miata. I hear you on the trunk space thing. but the A pillar on the three small drop tops are roughly the same.

the Corvette is way out of the solstice class.
