So I called a Subaru Dealer today

i love calling parts places for subaru parts...

i have the most fun ordering axles.

Them: can i help you?

me: need front axles 02 wrx wagon

them: impreza?

Me: yes

them: 2.0?

me: (growing tired of this game already) yes.

them: turbo?

me: YES

them: manual or auto?

Me: manual

them: left or right?

me: doesn't matter

them: what?

me: doesn't matter

them: well it says we have left in stock but right is out.

me: LOL ok LEFT then. but my right one is the one that's toast.

them: then you need a right one?

me: the left will work.

them: you sure?

me: (by this time im ready to choke the kid) yes im sure. just give it to me.

them: um...

me: its fine..they are the same. no really they are.

rinse and repeat a few months later for the other side.

im not going to mention names....but their initials are VIP.

I should have mentioned that I will go to EG for anything on the Subie. Inski's the man.

You mean NAPA, right? I only go to VIP for windshield washer fluid, and that's only when everything else is closed..... I haven't bought parts from them is quite a while (years). NAPA on the other hand has good parts, etc, but the auto knowledgeability (I just made that one up) is something that's lacking there.... IMO
What I meant Lobstah is that I know you will not got to VIP for the same reason I will not go there. Butch of 2nd grand flop outs that know jack crap about a car besides how to drive one.

On the side note, whenever i need something done on my SUbies, something i cannot do, EG is THE ONLY place i would take it to....
same here and I live in NH!

try being a female ordering parts. then I'll show you an exercise in frustration

there are a few good techs at vip....most of them are idiots but there are a few... parts do suck though...we actually order most things out of company, napa, icp, api or dealers...........being that im a tech and all for scarborough VIP.....thanks guys

You're a tech, so your interaction with customers is minimal. Our opinions are made based on the conversations we had with the "front men" of VIP - parts looker uppers

So you're all set

cant really expect a lot of guys who make 10 bucks an hour that just dont care.....it sucks.....those people are the faces of vip, not the techs who do the work, the ones that make all the money for the company...its hard sometimes to listen to the bashing of a company ive been at for 4 yrs now....they payed for my schooling up at cmcc, all my ase certs, any other class i could find that was usueful to me...i personally enjoy customer interactions, i like to show them things on there vehicle when they have questions and explaining how certain things work and why they failed....my goal is to become a service manager and run a shop and hopefully change some minds about vip....as i said there a lot of idiots that work there, the parts suck...i have to test every starter and alternator before i install it, i get 20% off everything and i still buy from icp or api....its the corporate people who the buy and sell the crap....but its still my job

Glad to know that there is someone in the club at VIP. I now have somewhere else to go for inspection. (expect my car in soonish)

sorry EG, that is just too much of a drive for an inspection.

lol..nm i read that wrong.....yea i work there, ase tech/state inspector....if you do bring it by try to make sure its fairly legal.....

you just have to know how to talk to them, just like any other customer service person.
You talking about the parts people at VIP? If so I guess we all need to de educate ourselves about cars and bring our 6 yr old children in to speak with them. Just to even the playing field. LOL>

To be fair, a lot of those generic parts places VIP included deal with all makes and all models. Doesn't sound like a big deal but these guys see the full spectrum of car owners too, idiots that have no clue what they're doing and shouldn't be buying parts. On top of that they have to deal with everyone who is at least semi-car educated about their specific car, not saying we're all asses to them but they don't drive our car therefor they have no reason to know anything about it. for example if I worked at a vip my subaru knowledge would be ok, but i wouldn't know anything about older chevy pickups.

The customer service people at most of them are terrible. Then again, when I asked about colder plugs from a parts place the parts kid said he thought I would want to go one step hotter with a more aggressive tune to make sure the spark didn't get blown out.
