and I realized I didn't know most of the songs they were playing. But they still played Stairway to Heaven!

What songs do you remember from your school dances when you were a kid? Be warned - you'll be dating yourself with the songs you list. Some of mine are:

 

Faithfully - Journey, Hungry Like The Wolf - Duran Duran, Who Can It Be Now? - Men At Work, Slade - Run Away, Jack And Diane - John Cougar, Electric Avenue - Eddy Grant, Little Red Corvette - Prince, Against All Odds - Phil Collins, Jump - Van Halen

 
At my High School and at my current college Dances:

Anything and everything top 40 or what Q97.9 is playing now, and what they played 4-5 years ago. They also throw in some Def Lepard, Aerosmith, Led Zepplin and AC/DC here and there.

 
haha. I picked my sister up from a few school dances (she's a grade below me). and there was always the group out back smoking one up. haha.

I don't smoke or drink though. I was one of those un-cool kids

Most of the kids at this dance were 11-13 years old, so it wasn't like a high school prom atmosphere. It was more like nervous, sweaty kids slow dancing for the first time, girls getting upset about boys not liking them, and a few "more advanced" kids having to be separated because they were getting a little too friendly.

Yeah, it's pretty funny. Most of the kids actually got into the dancing, but some of the socially awkward kids just drank soda and ate chips the whole time. Surprisingly, there wasn't as much of the "girls crying in the bathroom" crap as there has been in previous years.

 
I haven't gone to a dance since middle school... I'd much rather just hang out. Plus, our high school doesn't have many dances (I think we've had one non-formal dance all year so far, if even that). I can't stand most of the music (I'm pretty open to some of the new technoish pop that's starting to come out now though).

 
I loved those dances, always trying to get those buffy hair chicks to make out with me... (1988-1989) And always Stairway to Heaven.

Attire was stone washed, ripped, jeans. And jean jackets(which I never had)

 
Jeesh, when I went to middle skool dances, Hendrix was a nobody who was still in the Army. it was all 45s of Beatles, Hermans Hermits, Paul Revere & the Raiders, Monkees, etc

attire was bell bottoms, or else stay home in shame.

Is it bad that I wish our high school dances had every single one of those bands? I'm less familiar with Paul Revere and the Raiders, but I have CDs of all of them.

Me too. I showed up for one, because little sister was there with all those bad boys.

I can't even remember the music.

89, 90, 91? what was the hippity hop then.
