does anyone know how i would go about wiring a system to my stock headunit in my 02 wrx? im sure i could figure out the remote wire but i dont know where the audio red and white wires would go need help

i think you need to buy a adapter kit so you can hook up your amp. i think its rca wires. i did the same thing with my nissan altima

i can get you a direct plug in adaptor believe that will plug in the back of factory head unit and give you rca outputs. with out having to splice into your rear speakers. most box store bought converters will have to be spliced in and can be a pain in the hinney. I just got one for my uncles vet. it was like $45. i will check monday to see if i can get the same type of thing for 02 wrx

damn 45 bux lol

aight now how the hell do i pull out the stock head unit?

your cup holder should pull out and reveal two screws, unscrew them and then you can pop of the dash, its pretty simp from there. at least that's how mine is.

Bass is good....

I have phenominal bass in my STi, ask Ahren who got my stereo tuned nicely.

After I get my RS home and shuffle some audio around I may just have a couple tidbits for sale that could help U out. I am not 100% sure what will B leftover but something is bound to be extra; I'm talking either a 1x15 sealed enclusure sub, a 2x12 sub, 500 watt mono-block or maybe a 350 watt amp.

the cheaper line out convertor can be bought at walmart fro around $25 i also have those at the shop. but they are a pain in the a#% to hook up. They have a million little frequency knobs and you have to cut your rear speaker wires all to heck. the head unit comes out nice and easy after removing the trim around it. i also have used subs, amps, cd players at the shop!

well what u got im lookingf or around a 600 watt amp and a 10 inch box and most likely the line out converter. How much u think that would run me

I have run line out converters before and i was never really happy with the sound quality from a stock head unit. I had a Sable with digital clumate controls, in order to go to an aftermarket head unit you had to get an $800 dash kit. So I had to run the converter, I also had a selectable line in for my satelite radio. Adding the Boston speakers plus two 10" subs in the trunk, all run by a LJ amp was a good improvement but still not nearly as good as RCA control out of an aftermarket head unit. In my current car, I have the same amp running Alpine fronts and suby rears plus the same subs off of an Alpine deck. There is such a big difference. Just so much more control and variability.

If you are still stuck, I would be happy to give you a hand. Seeing as how you are practically right up the street.

It's been a while but I seem to remember something about the speakers are high voltage and an amp needs low voltage, which is why you MUST use a converter. I might actually have something still, I can't remember. The next time i drop by my folks place i can take a look. But sanford sound should have what you need.

Are you looking for volume or sound quality? I am not a volume guy (or a car audio guru), but I think a 600 watt amp for one 10" would be a little overkill. Not that there aren't subs that need 600 watts, but to get a good punch that won't bother every other driver, you don't need that kind of power. And of course the converer is going to be what costs you the least $ out of all that stuff.

Now that I think about it I have a whole bunch of wiring stuff, power wires, ground wires, speaker and rca's out of other set-ups. Before you by anything let me know what you need and I'll see if I have something we can coble together for you. I have a fetish for doing "clean" installs so I would basicaly buy all new wires for each new car. And I have had the same subs, in the same box since high school.

if U adhere to Ohms' law 600 watts is just a crazy amount of bass, maybe to much;I know lots of people with bass that sounds like much like mudd and does nothing more than untorque all UR bolts; including the stupid 500 watt monoblock I use to fire the subz in my STi...

in my 4runner I used a JL audio cleansweep. It takes signal from the factory unit and allows U to contour it prior to jamming it into amplifiers at line level for proper amplification.

I also use a combination of JL audio and Focal drivers.. the focal tweeters just saw UR head off.

The cleansweep is a really good product. I would definitly consider using it to retain a stock look as well as the five cd changer. The problem I have with it is the aux volume knob. That bothers me. If the volume was controlled by the factory knob I would be all for it, but i realize doing that would ruin the entire concept that it work under.

Chey, if you can swing it ($) and you def. want to stay with the stock radio, that's the best way to go. I think that it also integrates right up to any JL amp as well.

I actaully use my factory volume knob exclusively... unless it is early and I am misreading this...

My CS is under my front seat, the only thing I ever touch on it is the on/off switch to kill signal if the kids piss me off...

I am pretty sure it integrates into any amp as well. I have some JL and other amps fired up off of it...

I almost wish I put one in my STi to contrl the stupid eclipse "media center" I have.......

mine is about 4 years old, covered with sweet-n-sour sauce and prolly has a chicken nuggetr wedged under it cooking away. All I really know is my stereo guy said U wanted/needed it if I wished to retain my factory head unit and get anything resembling decent sound.
