Ashley was looking at an SVX for sale but it needs a tranny ...

I read something about it being able to use an SVX tranny, or one from the old loyal or justys ... are these hard to find in good condition?

Prices? Anyone *cough*Gabe*cough* have one around?

what is she looking at the one in lewiston the pearl white one.i know some one with a motor and tranny but i think the tranny is junk also i will ask him

Trannys for SVX's are not cheap, nor reliable. My understanding is that the only one that will bolt up without modifications is from an automatic XT6. If you were going to get it and spend the money, I would go with a 5spd swap.

The best place to find anything and everything SVX (including parts) is http://www.subaru-svx.net.

I had a customer in with an SVX that had a blown tranny. He bought an Impreza with a 5spd for $500 and swaped it into the SVX. Deal of the century.

Ashley needs an auto though. I'd forget this. Used tranny's are virtually non-existant and new ones are $6000. IF you got lucky to find a tranny and IF it was any good, it would be on borrowed time.

The greatest tech I've ever known once said, "the only guarantee you get with and SVX is that it'll need a tranny"

Agreed. If you really want to do it, and keep it auto, then find someone who's really good at rebuilding transmissions. Have them rebuild it, and add aftermarket tranny fluid cooler and filter kits. That will definitely improve the reliability of the transmission.

There was a guy who was gunna sell me a turbo legacy auto tranny and deliver it for $120 I think it was .. how hard would it be to swap this over?

I know with a 5spd swap from another Subaru, you have to fabricate cross-members, driveshafts, etc... I would assume an auto would be no different. Like I said, you should investigate at subaru-svx.net if you're serious.

gaah

if u have svx w/sick gearbox, just pour some sawdust in or....banana peels (used car snake salesman tested solution) :

presto...you get a couple hunnert free myles

any of the suby trannys will fit. you may only use 4 of the bolts instead of 6 depending on what combination you use, but it'll work. get a later svx tranny if possible because they came with filters instead of the earlier ones that had a cloggable screen in the oil line. if you get one that has a different gear ratio than the factory, make sure that you get a matching rear end for it. if you want to go manual, you just need the clutch/flywheel that came with it, the tranny crossmember support, driveshaft, rear end, and pedal box/associated cables. plus the welding for the new pedal box.

a new tranny and possibly matching rear end isn't hard, but the low reliability factor of the svx in general is something to take into consideration.

This is what the owner told me about the car ----- it is actually the front differential that is gone and somepthing with the selenoid c which the differential is in the front of the tranny and the selenoid is in the back so u prob could get the tranny fixed cause it shifted great and i was told when i got it that he had already put a tranny in it so it would be up to you on what you wanted to do get taht one looked at or just get a new tranny

if they want as much as i think they want for that with a blown tranny and what looks like a badly patched pannel... just walk away.

there are way better cars out there for less.
