well the season for winter safe classes is almost upon us, and I was thinking maybe we could do a MS Group Winter Safe class out at the Rally School.

If there is enough interest, i can talk to the school and see what can be setup, what kind of group rate we can achieve, and see about putting something together.

maybe Katnip could offer more insight to this.

keep in mind you will be bringing your own car and instructors will be driving your car from time to time.

who is in?

I would love to do this, but I can only participate if the cost is dramatically decreased. I understand that its worth the normal rate, but $400 is up there for this guy.

Ditto. $400 is about half of my gas/insurance/mod budget at this point (paychecks are slow...).

christmas is coming, ask for cash..

get winter tires on that sled and bring it.

its only a Subaru. there was a guy last year brought his 500hp Audi S6 and his wife brought her S4 both nicely modified and SUPER fun to drive.

last years rides included S4's, S6, STI's, Mercedes AMG, piles of WRXs, few saabs, volvo R, few hondas new and old, focus, lots of VW's, few Lexus' even a caged impreza one weekend. lol

400 is a lot, but IF we can get enough interest, there COULD be a good discount for a group such as ourselves to come out as a club and do this.

400 is a lot,
not compared to your insurance deductible and resulting jacked-up rates if you stuff the car in snow because you don't really know what you're doing.

400 is a lot, but not so bad if you plan ahead and budget the expense into say a year-long plan of improving your car and its 'trajectory control software'

most membrs here have spent way more than $400 on mods that don't add nearly as much capability as it would spending $400 to improve the driver.

400 is less than new summer gummies

400 is less than a sexay stainless fart can

400 is less than AP and tune

400 is less than new 18" rims

etc etc

you drive on winter roads up here 4-5 months a year. a lack of specific winter driver-training leaves you at a significant disadvantage -- or crawling around like a grandma when it does snow. and if you're crawling around like a grandma while you're at the wheel of a performance Suby...how lame is that??!!!

you are ALL worth improving, ppl. (well most anyway)

well spoken sir

I would add that you can find a used set of winter grippers on uncle hanks or craigslist cheap. I bought a set of Nordman nordfrost with the nubs still on them for $300 from a guy last year

apologies for the cheap shot, couldn't resist.

http://maine.craigslist.org/pts/1392267393.html now here is how a smart shopper gets great snows for his new Rex AND affords a Winter Safe School at O'Neil's. you get both for the price you'd pay for tires alone. how is that not a win-win-win?

last year was my first year as an instructor and i learned sooooo much more than i thought i already knew.

to remember there this always a bigger fish is very humbling, even though we have all been through many maine winters, there is always something else we can learn and improve upon.

i am trying to save a few bucks to send my wife through this school this winter.

Would this class be good for my son [17] first winter with new licence. He own a beater jeep with new snow tires....Depends on price and time

for anyone. AWD doesn't mean safe..proper skills and knowing what to do when you get into a skid is safe.

Interesting... I'll have to screw around with my allseasons in an empty lot to see what works best, because it's hard to describe in text.
