The Annual "When are you gonna put on the snows?" Thread for 2008

Getting to be about that time of year...

I put my snows on yesterday. Cold temps this week, black ice potential, bald summer tires* and a free hour to actually put 'em on were my decision making factors.

*main reason

I'm riding the RE92's for another season

Bah.

Much like Jimbo, I've ridden on Conti ExtremeContact all-seasons for the past 6yrs or so, and have no reason to change yet.

I will change the Gli the night before we are supposed to get snow. the Subaru.. uhh.. when I get around to it.

The Outback is keeping it's RE92A's through the winter again. They were fine last year. The BFG's on the Forester are toast. Anyone need a set of tires for auto-x? 215/60R16 V rated! haha!

3 weeks ago on the WRX, soon as i get some for the RS, its on all seasons now, no rush really. i might swap them around and get the blizzaks on the RS for the wife and i will take the all seasons.

Since I understeered into a curb and bent a wheel on the shagged avon's from L-town old ride i'd say.....Now :BangHead:

ding ding ding! Rad wins the highly coveted Gumby Award for today.

sounds like he needs a BFH and some blocks o wood to straighten things out

back on topic: my wag runs Pirelli PZero Nero M&S all-ski-sons, so I won't put on the snows until the forecast tells me to. it is a long-standing tradition in the Prodrive household to mount snows only when it is actually snowing out :tard:

Heading out to Tim O Neil's last week, I ran into a snowstorm up in the mountans. My snows are going on sometime this week, just as soon as I dig them out of the other piles of tires.

I put the studs on in the middle of Oct...my Potenzas were almost down to the thread... I had to put them back on because one of my new tires that I bought in the spring was bald on one side...I'm guessing that it developed a big bulge that I couldn't see, because it rode pretty rough.

I'm thinking i'll swap over some time this week now that the temps are down. My Dunlop Direzza Z1's aren't too cold friendly...it'll spin all four of the big meats pretty easily when it's cold out.

dec. 19th if I have snow tires then. I'd really like to get some Firestone Winterforce diggers...16 of them. 8 @ 205-55-16, and 4 @ 215-60-16, and 4@ 175-70-13 :headbang:

Snows and Steelies will go go on whenever I get time... I also want to dress up the steel wheels with some paint, so it may never get done. Last year was the first year with snow tires and it was so much fun. Every Subaru should come with two sets of wheels and seasonal tires!

I have 4 sets of wheels for my Jeep with 3 sets of tyres mounted up. 1 set of all terrains, 1 set of mud tyres, and 1 set of snow tyres. The spare wheel set is just in case I find a need for a different type of tyre for the thing. They might replace the snow setup though. I cracked a wheel during the Vermont Winter Challenge Rally (Rallyguy will know why this happened, haha) at the beginning of the year, so I have to see if it gets any worse this winter.
