The life, death, and ressurection of a king.

Need a new front wheel bearing. As much as I love Evergreen, VIP has them beat price wise, will be picking it up after work tomorrow.

BAD NEWS:

The comments for your order are

Hey Dan,

it's gonna be a few weeks. I'm out of the lateral link bushings.

Your order has been updated to the following status.

New status: On Hold
I'll cram in what's left of the stock trashed bushing back onto the lateral link just so I can move the car out of the garage, but the car wont be drivable until I get the lat link bushing kit in.

How much did the wheel bearing run your for parts + labour?

For $100 I'd rather buy the right dies needed to press the bearing and do it myself with my hand operated press. That way next time (and there's always a next time) it would just be the cost of parts.

Rear axles are in (mostly). All the rear suspension is loose and ready for bushings except for the two front lateral links. Flywheel in.

Before I started throwing bushings at the car this summer, there was a ton of drivetrain slop. Did the rear diff and outrigger bushings. Wasn't enough. Think I figured it out:

Trailing arm bushings are trashed.

Did some custom weight reduction. It's super mad tyte:

Cut off the brake dust shield because it was trashed anyways.

Replaced the wheel studs on the blown out knuckle. When I did that I managed to unseat the bearing. Oops!

Was in Portland today. Stopped by the VIP Matt works at, he wasn't there, but another guy pressed the bearing back in for freeeeeee. Heck yes.

Tomorrow I'll be putting in the front axles and putting the drivers side assembly back in. Hopefully I can turn some temporary deralin bushings for the rear so I can get that rebuilt until the new ones come in.

Car isn't going back on insurance until there is an event I want to drive it till though.

Bushings should come in this week. The rear end will be easy to put back together once I get them. Still need to put the front axles in...

Hoping to be done this weekend?

Guess I should update this thread about my toilet car.

Cut this out of JCovey's old wagon yesterday. Going to patch it into the car to fix some rust eventually.

KrazyKarpenter, my dad, and myself put some hours into the car this weekend to get it all buttoned up. Got it all together and it started up first try.

Went down the road. Clunk Clunk Clunk. Didn't bolt up the rear swaybar. Grind grind grind. Rear caliper bracket was missing a bolt. Whirrrrr whirrrrr whirrrrr, haven't figured that one out yet.

I worked on it today, fixed the swaybar, fixed the brake brackets. Took the dust shield off the drivers side rear brake to match the passenger side. Inspected ALL the brakes on the car. Took it for a spin again.

  •
  • First thing. It's throwing a CEL because of the O2 sensor. The pins popped out of the plug, and I don't think I put them back in right. There's two white ones, a gray one, and a black one. No idea what the right order is. Going to have to play the guessing game...

  • Second. When rolling clutch in, the cars electrical system seems to shut down. At stop signs it'll sometimes stall. No idea wtf that's about.

  • Third. Whirring sound from the drivetrain. More notable on decel I can't figure out if something is off, or if it's a natural side effect from all the bushings and mounts I've thrown at the car. I tried listening for if it's front or back, but my hearing is ROYALLY messed up, so I can't really tell.

  • Fourth, speedometer is off, I know it's because the car is re-geared from 4.11 to 4.44 with the new setup. Still looking into how to fix this exactly.

As for driving impressions. I don't have enough seat time in it to really make any notable comments, plus I put the snows back on. Good news is, this thing is going to be AWESOME for autox/rallyx. First gear is DEEP. Took it on my dirt shakedown road :evil grin:
