The suxors.... Thule box too long!

Obviously, you don't want the front out over the windshield too much, but you could drill some more holes in the bottom of the box too move it forward. I did that when I had to move mine back on my truck. 8 more hole in the bottom of the box won't hurt. More drainage.

Of course, all of this based on if the box attaches with the metal plates, bolts, and "wing" nuts. Might not woek if it is one of those boxes with the sliding clamps. ;D

That is why I got the basket. I went to Kittery Trading Post and bought one. Went outside with the rep and DAMMIT you can not open the hatch as the wing hits it. Thule web site says it will fit just fine. Bastards. The larger one that Subaru sells will fit just fine. Just ask Joel for a price.

No room to slide the feet forward?

Those Thule guys are pretty cunning. I bet they make a $400 attachment that would make it work ;D

I think if i move the rear crossbar forward I can get the hatch open more. My Thule box uses the sliding clampy mount thingymadoodles so there's really no drilling holes... i'd have to increase the length of the channel that the thingymadoodles can slide in.

Maybe i'll email Thule too to see what they have to say.

Thule's response...

Thanks for contacting us. You're hosed and if you drill holes in the box it'll void the warranty. Thanks!

Makes me seriously consider Yakima next time I want a rack... I was gonna get a Yak when I got the Forester but they didn't make a foot pack that LOCKED to the 03 Forester roof rails (they do now). So I went Thule.

Yakima's website is so nice to navigate where as THule's is a beeyatch to find a specific item. You have to go thru the whole configurator process. WTF?!

I assume you're hitting the lip spoiler on the rear window, right? Would you consider replacing it with something that fit the box?

Yaah, I'm hitting the spoiler above the back window. Do you mean replace teh box with something that fits the Brokeback? A shorter box? I probably won't replace it due to the cost of a Thule box.... It's not like we're snowboarding all the time with the baby now and the box is just used for trips, which, once we get to the destination I can pop the box off in about 5 minutes.

Plus the box fits perfectly on the Forester.

I have Thule locking feet & load bars... I also had a Thule velovise bike mount that would fit on round or square (I actually used it on my old Yak rack on my Jeep). Round or Square... I'm still hosed on the box (which will mount to factory rails as well).

Actually, I was thinking custom/no wing. The LGTers might know of something,

How bad is the overlap? Can you jack up the back of the box to get clearance?
