Tow straps ThRead

so is it a definite no-no to have a braided-nylon strap with hooks? It's not too late to return my AAA car-kit. The only important things in it were the strap and jumper cables.
dump that thing.

you don't want anything that stretches.

go to tractor supply or anything similar and you will find a bunch of well priced straps.

Burn it so that nobody will ever try to use it for anything, and then get yourself a real strap. I could exert more than 2000 pounds of force tugging a lawnmower out of the muck.

I cut the hooks off one that came in one of my saab parts cars years ago. I used some D-rings to attach them to an appropriate tow strap.

that is what is on my front for sweep. along with a few tow keys.

Toss the strap like they said and also the jumper cables, the ones in the kits are usually junk and cables are not good for modern cars with all the electricals and computer stuff, get a cheap rechargeable jump box to start cars.

ugh, that's basically all that's in the kit, other than bandaids and a cheap flashlight.

wtf

I have never had a vehicle that could be started with one of those, especially when completely dead. I have a car now, new battery, let it sit almost all summer, always started though. Soon as it got cold out it was dead and wont start unless you let another vehicle run while hooked up to it for at least 20 mins.

If you don't want to return the kit you can always cut the hooks off and then use them on the end of a "real" strap. just take the hooks to Tractor supply or a hardware store and fine a D ring that will go through (just the Pin) the hook.

I've used jumper cables before, and all is fine.
I've always used them, it is just not recommended anymore because of no surge protection, the cheap ones they give you in kits have always sucked a$$ not a heavy enough wire.

Completely dead no, I've had trouble with using another car when a battery was completely dead.
