transmission in bugeye

So this seems like an appropriate thread to ask in... Is there any way to get newer-tech synchros for an older trans? I don't know how the synchros work or what exactly they do, so they could be totally different and this would be a stupid question, but I'll never know if I don't ask!
i dont know about this. hopefully someone can give you an answer to this. i am going 6 speed swap sometime this year so i wont have to worry about it

NO you can NOT put the new syncros in the old housing. The trans is different. I have looked into it because I wanted to do the same thing. You could do an entire trans swap, but that requires other stuff to be swapped to and if you're going to do that, you might as well just get a 6 speed. which of course requires a laundry list of stuff to buy in addition to the trans..

one that kind of looks like this for a 6 speed swap:

trans

rear end

drive shaft?? (not totally sure but think so)

clutch fork

clutch

pressure plate

flywheel?? (can't remember about this either)

front and rear transaxles

hubs

brake rotors/calipers/brackets/pads

rims

crossmember

shifter linkage

I think that's pretty much it. it's pricey but i have seen guys do it for 2k-ish when they shop around. people tend to just throw away stuff like clutch forks and shifter linkage so a lot of times they're only the cost of shipping.
