So Camden is trying to pass a anti-idiling policy.

-the draft policy states. "For the purpose of this policy 'idle' shall mean that the primary propulsion engine is running while the vehicle is stationary and not engaged in a gear to power the drive train."

They are going to put it in place with no penalty for now. then in 10 years you will be slapped with a fine if you are warming your car up in your driveway.

It is merely a foot in the door for the ultra intrusive lawmaking. Does it make sense to not let your car sit and idle? yeah. Does the Gov need to come on my property and tell me how and when to run MY vehicle? nope.

I am a life-long Camden residint and jave joineded the Anti-Idling Posse. We are tasked with eliminating ALL idlers in town.....except if they are buying restaurant meals, staying at one of our historic and architecturally significant B&Bs, and/or are buying ice cream cones n T-shirts. All other idlers will be terminated.

Yes this means U.

Back on topic....this is not a foot in door for ultra intrusinve lawmaking, it's simply a town committee without enough real stuff to do. Like getting a life for starters.

This is the same way we went to mandated seatbelts and so many other things.

all praise the no penalty/no fine thing until one day they decide to add that.

really.....that's got to be the dumbest thing ive heard of....do they really haave nothing better to do than that......

So if there is bumper to bumper traffic in Camden and I am in neutral for over 3 min and a cop walks by and sees the car is in neutral am I in trouble then? Guess I will have to get a car with an automatic transmission. lol In all seriousness what even brought up this "issue"? I use the term issue loosely. I will take a shot in the dark and guess it had to do with tractor tailer trucks or something along those lines.

The policy would provide exceptions for the health of individuals and where the function of the vehicle would be impaired by shutting it off.
No penalties are included in the draft policy, which seeks to raise public awareness through educational signage in busy locations, posters and literature.
ya know, I don't know what they are targetting exactly. It is the peoples mioney in their own cars getting spent.

WTF are they thinking..

I pause to think of th eheadgasket episode recently.. the chemistry lingered for days right outside. Time went along and proved it to be strong enough to melt the rubber off the rear window wiper.

that was a bad idle. Can't think of any other reason to shutdown...

unless camden knows there is a flying pollution bomb hit or miss targetting engines running.. and officials in a top secret undercover mission to save the villagers...

nah. that would be a far fetched tale there. Nothing like that happens except in bangor and 400 sqaure miles surrounding it.

Those that do not like this government BS should follow Camdens selectman around and call them on this insane POOP when they let their cars idle too long.

What's the big deal? They didn't say NO idling, they said three minutes. Unless it's wicked effing cold out I don't warm my car up that long. I have a digital temp thingy in my legacy and after about a minute or 2 anything above freezing it's up to 75 or so degrees, about the same temp when I hop in and just go in the summer. I think three mins is plenty, just drive it easy for a few miles.

I perfer to have the freedom to decide if my car is idiling too long not some mandate by the government.

I would not want to live in those counties. They are probably the countries that are crumbling under the weight of their failed socialist governments.
And we're failing under a corporate run government...

Don't play this game. I'm not in the mood for it.

I have news for you, Big business runs the world and has influence on all governments. Too much money & power corrupts. I`d rather deal with big business than an over reaching government no matter who`s in power.

PS: I am for small government and states rights if you didn`t figure that out already.

Too bad big business loves screwing over everyone. #1 is the top guys paychecks. Small government and state rights is a pipe dream when most of our politicians are payed off.

Either way, we're LOVE e d. No one in power has progress or the greater good in mind. Doesn't matter if you're a repub or dem, left or right, old or young, POOP is going down hill and no one wants to fix it.

Also, thanks for derailing a thread about idling vehicles in maine into horse POOP politics
Whenever government intervention is imposed on us no matter how small it may be is bad in mho and gets my old blood boiling..

The only hope we have is term limits for all. We do not need career politicians.
