I honestly think mobil 1 gets it rep because its the most widely used and affordable synthetic oil. I know of a couple SR20DE motors that have upwards of 300,000 miles on them and have been on Mobil 1 their entire life. People have their opinions and evidence either way. Its more of how much you are willing to spend and what you feel.

But Yes, I do sell Redline synthetic oil. Let me know if there is something you may be interested in.
That's exactly what it is. There is no problem with M1, it's a completely approved oil for use in our cars. I've had oil analysis' done and haven't seen anything out of the ordinary and that's with auto-x'ing sloshing the oil all around. I dont yet have an Oil temp or pressure gauge, but i'm probably going to pick them up to keep an eye on that if i should jump to 10w-40 in the summer. My car has upwards of 20k miles and i've never had to add oil, i check it at every fill up and it's never budged.

Nasioc may be the worst forum i've ever read in my life, it's filled with more crap, assjacks, and douches than any forum i've ever been on. Makes a lot of sense that the same people will tell you to never use M1 a completely approved oil and then tell you to use a mix of gear oils that dont meet subarus requirements. :

My recommendation, find 93 octane on a triple pumper (3 hoses not 1 so you dont get a bunch of 87 at the beginning of your fillup) brand doesn't really matter, i've datalogged with many different companies and haven't seen a difference in any of them. As for oil, keep doing what you're doing and keep an eye on your oil level!

are you referring to the famous uncle scotty tranny cocktail? I was curious about the immediate pros vs longterm cons witht that

Yes i am. I think shockproof is a great great thing, but any transmission with a warranty i'd think twice about running it.

Whats the best oil for my STI ive been putting mobil 1 5w-30 in it? Also what gas is better exxon or sunoco?
I heard they like 75w90, that's what I use anyway. Jk, I run whatever cheap (Dino) 5w30 oil they have at the parts store. I also buy the cheapest gas possible. My sti has 105,000 and uses about half a quart between every oil change since I first bought it. I say buy the cheap stuff and check it on a regular basis and if it looks like doo doo change it. This is the first car I have owned that I am really good about oil changes on. I have only gone over 3000 miles once, and only went over by 600 miles. Do what you want but Im not spending my money where I dont need it.

If anyone wants info MOTUL, I can get it to them.

I DON"T sell it directly to the public, but distribute it.

What do I recommend?

8100 5W30 for the engine

Gear 300 for the tranny and rear diff

Engine Clean and Fuel system clean(with each oil change)

We have run this oil in our street cars and the rally car(s) for a few years now.

FWIW, the SWRT uses MOTUL 300V 5W40 in all temperatures. I spoke with the mechanics at Corona rally Mexico and asked if they used a different viscosity for different events. Their reply? "Once the engine is warm, it's wam!" :-)

Cheers! John

this is one of those battles that will never be won ;D its kind of like air filter battle cold air intake or stock

same here man. Mobil 1 for 67k changed at every 7500mi

Site #1 is a list of #'s, nothing saying one is better than the other

site #2 is a test of diesel oil's, not real relevent, but long and boring

site #3 the guy ran Mobil 1 DELVAC and it ran out of his drain plug like water at 8k miles. Delvac is for diesels

site #4 has 4 people saying they burned with Mobil 1, 3 saying they didn't. One of the guys was probably you 'cause he switched to 15W40 and miraculously it stopped burning oil. No kidding, it's friggen molases!

Once again, opinions. I've got 111k miles, have run Mobil 1 since 92k and burn about 1/2qt to an oil change. Hey, maybe I get better Mobil 1 than everyone else!

I love ya Pat, I just hate it when you say something sucks without any real facts. Your car burning oil from day one probably had nothing to do with the break-in proceedures, did it? Maybe 15W40 is ok on built engines, but I wouldn't do it on anything with stock internals.
i actually did break it in right but i got it with 100 miles on it. joel I had bad luck with mobil 1 and have stuck to rotella with most of my cars except the g35 which gets amsoil. Joel I need a new car find me a loaded sti(an 06 pref)

not sure about Motul, but amsoil doesn't need to be changed as often as cheap oil, I'd say mine gets done twice a year (every 10k or so) so I'm not spending much more, if any.

Al and I got hooked on amsoil after one of the circle track guys we know got amsoil to guarantee his motor, he ran the same oil in the car for the entire season, never changed it once and the oil held up all season. if it can hold up in a built up superstreet that raced every weekend from mid-April to mid-Sept I figured it was good to run 10k+ in my DD/RX 2.5

I'll happily pay more to change less ;D

k

Ruggedman, so you're going to use cheaper oil and change it more often? 6 of one, half dozen of another. I change my oil twice a year.

I suppose if you want to change your engine block/heads and think that's saving money, I guess that's a choice.

The other question all of us have to ask is how long we're going to keep our vehicles? Some folks will drive them into the ground, but most will trade them in after

I think that Kathy's point is well taken. A higher quality oil will allow an increase in the interval between changes. Better for the environment and the cost remains the same as using a cheaper oil.

Regards, John

You guys go 10k miles on the same oil filter!?
default_smile.png
Or do you do just a filter change at some point? Also do you guys do UOA at a place like blackstone to see how the oil is holding up after 10k miles? I guess I wouldn't worry too much in a 2.5RS, but with a turbo car there is a lot more stress on the oil being able to perform.

And yeah if you go to extremely long change intervals that's fine I agree it is the same costwise down the road. And personally i'd like to keep my subaru until the day I die, it's a perfect winter beater and will give me that all season car so i can have really fun cars at the same time, if I could have afforded my legacy sport sedan's repair bills in college i would still be driving it today :-

I'm not a big fan of oil analysis, although I know that there are plenty of people that are. Just check out VW TDI owners. They have to be the most intense oil folks I know! :-)

I combine my oil changes with the motul engine clean treatment. It cleans the crankcase of deposits. I also throw in a bottle of engine clean(fuel injector cleaner) at the same time.

I don't change my oil filter in the middle. There are many that would.

Regards, John
