whistle while boosting?

if you get an ebay one you will run into fitment issues and more leaks >

The DC sports one has a flex pipe, or the invidia is fairly cheap. Does this take a conventional WRX uppipe?

Are you running a EGT sensor? The stock STI ones don't have a cat or bung. (bung, hehehe)

A test was run on a dyno. Stock STI vs Stock WRX gutted vs aftermarket. They produced the same power, but the stockers tend to fit much better without leaking. I'd either gut a stocker if you have an EGT sensor, or STI stock one. As a bonus, when sticker time rolls around, it looks stock.

BTW, if you gut a stock one, be careful not to drill through the side... I put a hole in the pipe but not through the heat shield.. luckily I inspected it well. I'd check the nasioc FS stuff, you might be able to find a used stock uppipe for cheap.... and gut it yourself.

New/used UP finally installed. Exhaust leak is gone! Whistle is still kinda there, but sounds different. The car hasn't been driven much this winter, it's possible the turbo is a little funky on the inside. It did seem to get better as i boosted down the road.

New hallman (sp) boost controller also installed.

And a new FCD is in the works.

Pics to come soon.

;D ;D ;D

Update for anyone who was keeping up with this:

The whistle had gotten a lot worse, it would start at about 3-5lbs of vacuum and just get louder as i hit boost. For a while i just turned up the radio and took it easy on her.

But soon performance started to be affected. Judging by the sound, performance issues, and process of elimination i figured it had to be somewhere in the intake after the turbo. And since i had just put on the WRX iC and the BPV piping was kinda funny still i figured that would be the best place to look.

So yesterday i pulled the whole intake apart, tidied up a couple of things and put it back together.

One major thing i did was trim/shorten the clutch reseviour. Now the IC fits much better. The hood closes nicely.

Took her for a spin and the whistle was gone!! Just nice turbo spool, followed by braaahhh, follow by :headbang:
