Give me some highlights over vista.
All the changes can be found in this article.

Notable stuff:

Redesigned start bar.

Improved boot time/shutdown time.

Requires less powerful hardware.

Better handwriting recognition.

Notification center.

UAC tweaked a little bit.

Windows media player sucks less, you can use it to play most video files out of the box now.

Windows snap to the sides and top of the screen to either go half screen or full screen respectively.

I run vista on my tablet PC, which is 1.00ghz, 3 gigs of ram, and a 4200rpm hard drive. The specs are considered very weak, yet vista performs fine on it except for a slow boot and shutdown time. Vista was fine, it just got destroyed by the media and everyone parroted Digg articles and blogs they read saying whaaaaa Vista is awful. Vista was a perfectly acceptable OS that was plagued with a weak launch and bad hardware drivers, once service pack 1 hit it was smooth sailing.

Windows 7 feels a lot like Vista. Microsoft has re branded it and polished it up and people are complaining less. People still are going to whine about UAC, but you can shut it off if you feel you don't need your hand held.

Yea once you shut uac off vista is fine. I acctually like it and although having a mac would be fun I dont know if I would care for it. I like to play a lot and macs just arnt as tinker friendly.

My Mac crashes often, and is plagued by a new virus every week or so, in addition to being un-tinkerable.

I've heard great things about Seven. I got the 64bit RC for my brother's computer (which has 4gb of ram) but his old Wifi-B adapter didn't have 64bit drivers

. Apparently its like vista with lower hardware requirements.

Hmm, maybe I'll have to try it out .. my only problem will be when it comes to reinstall .. I hate formattinggggggggggggggggggg

two harddrives ftw? I assume you're talking about backing up for the reformat, as the actually deed takes maybe an hour (with Vista it was even less for me, as a lot of it was unattended).

I installed it on a virtual machine. It isn't as bad as vista. But that is about all I have to say about it.

Virtual machines are awesome. I have like 30 different systems...

I'm one of those rare birds that LOVES vista. Best OS i've ever used, and i've used them all.

I feel no need to go to windows 7, but if re-naming vista and tweaking it a bit makes the market happier...then why not.

I agree. Vista was all well and good, yet they managed to strip it down and make it leaner for 7. That and making the out of the box programs suck less, I can deal with that.

Microsoft not only rubs me the wrong way, their operating systems also suck.
