Windows 7

Ugh. I hate Vista with a passion. It's almost as bad as windows ME. You know, it the way that you can't ever find the menu or function you want and nothing you want to use on it is compatible. I run a fairly up to date computer, Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4ghz with 2 gigs of ram, GeForce 8800GTX video and SB Audigy 2 sound. I don't upgrade the crap out of it like I use to and unless its a game, I don't run licenced software. Even my Windows XP Pro is pirated from XP's initial release. I am affraid to try W7 because I don't think it will be compatible with the older games I still play, like Homeworld 2 with the TFS mod, or Company of Heroes. HW2 did not work on vista, that's when I canned the full version of Vista I had and went back to good old XP Pro. It still does everything I want it to and is compatible with all the new stuff!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. BTW I get hacks that allow DX10 functions in XP for games like Crysis.

I wanted a raid 0+1 setup but I'm using ghetto raid via intel storage matrix. Plus I'm out of connections for anymore drives.

Not worth it. I got the 64 bit Ultimate edition for free and its like Vista, slightly faster and a few new features. I dont know what its going to be selling for but I don't think its worth it.
I read this as well, and the posts disappeared, before windows 7 was attempting momentum. It is kinda funny to see most compare vista to XP. It is as different as an 87 sube wagon and a 2007 outback...

Xp didn't even go beyond 512 L2 caches, of course people thought it was faster, it is a laser beam of no work but your own puny concentration. My woes stopped with vista premium, and I aint budging anytime soon. At least it knows I have 3400 mhz with alrger L2 cahce, and 4gb ram. And that glassy aero stuff...zero cpu usage. it even uses the vid cards more. XP pro, I had a very early copy in 2001, that was win2k attemping pretty. Xp to vista, is vista keeping much much bigger work in the underhood..and keeping appearance easily. I never figure out the public perception. Just recently, in bangor daily news comments...someone referred to barack as barry, as if to step up with a cute nickname. I won't babble anymore...

I agree about your windows 7 opinion.

I got Windows 7 and I enjoy it. There's a few features I had to change and a couple I want to be able to but can't. There is a noticeable jump in performance from Vista though. I'm using the 64 bit version. I also couldn't get my computer to keep any downloaded files. As soon as it was downloaded it would disappear. Not a firewall issue because it would actually download. I could see the file as it would download and then it would just literally disappear as i watched it complete downloading. Didn't matter what it was either. Totally annoying. Couldn't figure it out and so I splurged. I think it was worth it. I missed the cut off date to get the free upgrade by like 2 weeks too.... oh well.

Is this in Firefox or Internet Explorer? Or god forbid in Safari? Oh yeah, Chrome is gaining popularity too.

I tried in both firefox and IE. I even tried to use bit torrent and that couldn't get anything. I could literally see the files on my desktop AS they are downloading, but once they finished they would disappear. totally lame

I have still been putting off installing ubunutu or a variation...

I have used whatever Sun's professional OS is (not the free version) for doing Physics simulations on some sort of server (where you can plug in "modules" that are basically mini computers, I think it's called hotswapping?). I liked it but I'm not sure I'd use it for a personal OS.

Ubuntu? NOOOOOO! Actually I have a few Ubuntu boxes, but the computer I do all my programming on is running Slackware.

Edit: Massive bonus points to anyone who routinely uses VI.
