WTF: RS still running like SH*T!?!

Alright, I was stupid. Iwas just trying to think of quick, easy things to try so they could run on Sunday. I will from now on stay out of technical discussions I know nothing about. Or not.

no no no.

Sometimes people who know less than the "gurus" actually stumble on the right answer by asking naive questions. I'm being serious here... no offense meant (and besides, I'm one of the stupid people when it comes to cars...) My boss does it all the time at the printing shop.

An o2 sensor is definitely plausible. But, they run $100 or so. Check the fuses first, then check/re-check the fuel filter & test the pump. Injectors are also a possibility, but those might be ??? harder to get to than the pump?

ummm.... not really.

The pump access is located in the trunk. You will need to remove the carpeting and the rear seats to get to it. Hope and pray that's not the issue. A new fuel pump assy. is gonna set you back 2 or 3 bills, or so...

Fuel injectors are easier, sort of. If you pull those, you will need to relieve the fuel system pressure. NO SMOKING!

Well, i put the plugs from the obs in this morning with some good grease.

Didn't have time to check anything else. Had to switch sway bars then ran out at 11:00.

Wannarex, when your o2 was bad where you getting a CEL or a bad o2 reading? The o2 is what we were thinking at first but Pats said they were good. It is possible one of them is bad anyway?

So while the car was idling this morning and my father-in-law was looking at it, at first it was doing the same thing, but after a little bit it started to smooth out. then while i was out sometimes it would hesitate, but most of the time it was okay.

The only thing i can think of is that if the coil was bad the ECU was trying to make up for it. Now that there is a new coil and we reset the ECU it is relearning a good coil. We are going out again, and we shall see how it does. We'll take it easy on her and maybe it will work out.

injectors and fuel i think are next to trouble shoot if it gets worse again.

thanks everyone.

I had a CEL, but someone at some time had taken the CEL bulb out, so I didn't know it until I bought a OBD scanner. I don't remember the actual code but I do remember it didn't come up as "bad o2 sensor". I had misfiring on all 4.

I only truly diagnosed mine by reading a bunch of other peoples o2 problems and I decided it was worth the $80-$100 to get one and replace it. It worked for me. But I certainly can't second guess Patriot's diagnostics. And a hundred dollars is a lot to throw at a problem you're not sure of.

Mine would mostly act up before it was up to temperature and under 3000rpm.
Ours is all the time at any RPM.

And yes it is still happening. It did seam better this morning after trying some stuff and resetting the ECU. At the moment that seams to be the only common between what i did and what Pats did. And like before it seamed ok for a while and now is back to crap.

Back to the drawing board i guess. ??? :'(

Sorry guys. I was hoping it would be easier.

Wannarex, I did suggest a o2 sensor, but the guys that diagnosed it at Patriot (i dont work there) said it wasn't that. The key here is multiple misfires AND a fuel trim code. That suggests an O2 sensor to me, and its pretty common on subarus for 02s to go bad and give the computer a false signal. The false signal will fool the computer into increasing or decreasing fuel trim and once it gets beyond a certain point the computer will trip the CEL saying its out of the desired range. The Subaru Select Monitor will show the read out of the fuel trim steps, that is usually one of the first things they look at. I would shy away from injectors because its unlikely all four would fail and cause misfires at the same time.

Bring it back to Patriot.

That's nothing compared to the ATF treatment you do to Rotary Engines...

Got an appointment at patriots tomorrow afternoon. I'm dropping it off at noon and not picking it up till they have an answer, or the end of the day, whichever comes first.

Fingers are crossed.

Does that seafoam stuff really work?

Pour in chemicals almost never cure a problem. Except maybe dry gas.

I'm sure Patriot will take good care of you. They'd want to know if it isn't fixed right and I'm sure they thought it was fixed when you drove away.

My CEL popped on while on my way to Patriot last night >

I found out this mornin' it's due to the fact my EGT isn't in place. I guess I need to find out what I'm REALLY suppose to do with it. OOPS!

Good luck!
