You Think You're Bright???

I fell for a gimick at advanced auto, the "extra extra" bright light plugged right in to the sockets oem. I have used high beams only in the 80s mph at night, and being sure there was no glimpse of taillights in front of me. Amazing what they have done with them. The concept of lights down low for fog has also left my mind..
many others have tried this approach. works fine for a while, but it holds peril for suby wiring harnesses. the 100w high beam bulbs have a tendency to melt the sockets on the headlight wiring. don't axe how this was figured out...after melting the sockets on 3 subies in a row, I have opted for aux lights on the 05 wag! sincerely yours, Mr Slow Learner

i used 100 watt bulbs in my fog of the RS and u will never guess what happened "something" malfunctioned in one light assembly not the bulb.

...heh lemme guess, your "something" included blobs of melted goop that used to be nice wiring and connectors??!!

actually, I got away w/running 100w in the 00 RS fogs, tho the lights ran hot which shortened bulb life a lot (like blubs burnt out before wiring did).

more details from my experience with trying to upgrade stock Subie lighting...

98 Leg GT headlites w/100w hi beams = fail

00 RS headlites w/100w hi beams = fail

02 Bugeye Rex wag headlites w/100w hi beams = fail

guy @ local NAPA asks me, "How come you always buying headlight plugs??"

05 Rex wag, whoa finally gave up, left stock lites alone, and added beaucoup Hellas to the nose = PASS

I meant passing...as in ME Inspection. of course even this wasn't simple given dumb ME insp laws

Insp guy: um, what chew need all them lights fer, they illegal ainthey?

me: those are for offroad use only, they're covered up now so don't chew worry bout em ok?

came back a hour later and there was a nice fresh 110% LEGAL insp stickA

SO, it's just my imagination that the aux hellas light up further, wider, and brighter???????

I have definitely spotted moose sooner than with stock.

OOOPS, just broke rule 14

last set of hellas, before the new mount. i also have fogs hooked up under the fog light covers, much cheaper than the $450 kit

oh yeah with out a drought the 6inch hella lights rock! once i traded my old car i gave my 4 to my dad to put on his baja if u haven't noticed. but with the lights on the rack instead of out front they put out so much light!(off maine roads of course:D) and i put in a revirse light for him for thows dark nights backing up with 20%tint:rolleyes:

What is the law again? You can only have 4 forward facing lights or something?!
well they dont care how many lights r faceing forward its how many are on that count and that's 4 at once. on the front of the vehicle roof mounted lights or "BAJA lights" cops realy dont like on atall on maine roads.

Sorry for the poor picture quality..but here is what I have. Silverstar Hi and Low Beams along with Hella 500's mounted with a bracket fabricated by iwagon.....they do the job:)

on the WRX is did the fog light mod to keep them on with the high beams, i run silverstar bulbs in the standard headlights, i made a light bar with 2 - PIAA 40 series pencil beams, and 2 - Hella 500 cornering beams for the sideways action at night.

i can usually have truckers flashing me from behind about 1/2 mile down the road.
