2.2 Thread

rave reviews. i rarely have ideas people approve of.
I just really like side projects that aren't daily drivers, be they subaru or not. When I graduate and find employment I look forward to a project/moneypit. Even better is these side projects that come play at autocross or rallycross.

Mine will, once it's legal to drive on the road

how he's going to wedge a 22T scooby motor with big turbo into an s13, now THAT I'd pay to watch!

Unless I'm mistaken these threads are just a series of thinking out loud. Who knows what he may surprise us with.

exactly. i was pretty positive i wanted a rwd hp machine but i have problems with how pricey they are for a non beat one, and how beat the non pricey ones are. mighty's wrx for sale made me feel the subie love again.

I love that show. "I think the best thing I can say about the brakes and suspension is that they're, well, they're not finished, yeah..."

why mess with the 2.2 if you're only going to run vf39-18g levels? Get a junkyard WRX longblock and call it a day.

KISS

And yes, the 4.44 JDM 5 speed is a treat.

Although I have been very tempted to put in aftermarket gears that are closer to the RA ratios.

Because the open deck 2.0 wrx block sucks compaired to a 22T. Who's to say he'd stay at 18g levels, may as well overbuild it. I had 1100hp sleeves put into my accord engine so I knew I'd never max them out, I'd rather overbuild then underbuild and be limited by a block and not bolt on parts.

well a stock 22t isn't holding anything higher than a vf39 unless i'm mistaken. i like the 22 because of the built possibilities it offers. i know you can build anything to high heaven but the 22t block is obviously a great platform for it.

I've seen a few cars make 400whp on 30R sized turbos on a stock 22t block, without reliability issues.

stock heads?
No, dohc heads. I don't think I'd ever run a 22t with anything but a td04 on stock heads. The valves/ports are seriously tiny compaired to na 2.5 dohc heads.

na 2.5 dohc? with what done to them? i thought i read a giant write up that said they really weren't a great fit. are the turbo 2.0 or 2.5 heads any better?

The cooling holes don't line up exactly, but supposedly it's not enough to make a difference.
