RezPunk got a big ride codriving for the Turner/Sockalexis G2 Scoob, they were doing great until gravity prevailed and they got stuck, beached, high-centered etc trying to drive flat out up a gravel mountain. Eventually another rally racer pulled em out and they finished. Their car was well prepped with a solid service crew. Very credible effort by a strong young rally team. 2WD racers in the East, beware these guys.
thanks for the props sir! i was trained by one of the best co-drivers in the country
we were going fast that for sure, we were in a tightly contested battle with JB and father all day untill we had a little blooper. one thing we found out, we need more powah! the 1.8 was struggling up some of those hills.
we had a slew of other problems that plagued us through out the day.
Dear Diary...
my intercom mic failed, which led to us swapping helmets on the way to stage 1, saw Mr Moody at the end of 1 and asked if we could get his mic from his helmet back at service...he said he would try.
end of stage 1 a subie had gone off hard at the end of the stage, and the Jeep (more on these guys later) was blocking the entire road trying to pull him out...we had to come to a complete stop for about 20 seconds. grr.
stages 2-6 were flawless, we ran clean and tidy the whole way going SO fast through the school and local roads. Mountain Road is such a great road.
Al Moody came through with a mic at service 1, worked briefly on the way to stage 7...then crapped out again...which lead to swapping helmets AGAIN on teh way to 7. this tells me their is a problem down stream of the mic.
Stage 8 about a mile in...Kevins helmet came unplugged... no biggy right? i can just yell right? LOL no way...i was already losing my voice from being ill all week, and he was wearing my Peltor helmet which has noise reducing headsets...he couldn't hear me yelling at all...i kept reading notes in one hand while trying to plug him in with the other... didnt slow him down though...lol
back to service for stages 9 and 10, all is well.
stage 9 was going really well, we were hauling it through the first few miles, over the big jumps we were catching some awesome air. heading up the switch backs of Chicks gravel pit.. things were getting soft and sloppy. into this sharp right hander up hill, we got a little inside, lost momentum, tried to downshift...it was soft and we just dug in..tried backing out...but hill was too steep to get the car going forward again..ended up backing oddly into the hillside and getting stuck in deep into the soft piles of dirt.
we tried pushing, digging, swearing, praying...nothing worked. as kevin worked on a plan to get out...i was busy trying to convince ANY other car to help us out.. i stood there with my OK sign and a tow strap in hand for seemed like HOURS.. (actually it was only 10 minutes) as one by one the competitors flew by.
finally...two guys in a jeep Comanche in our own class stopped and helped us out, they were the last car on the road with nothing to lose. infact they had already gained one spot in class with us being stuck. they yanked us out and then took off with their general lee horn blazing (yes the horn from the dukes of hazard)
about 30 seconds later here comes fast sweep...RezDog in the passenger seat..Bob at the wheel...they stop...now it was REAL nice of them NOT to pass us..because if they did...we were done...DNF.....but they stopped...they saw we were packing it up and strapping back in the car... in fact i was told by my OWN BROTHER to....and i quote.... " hurry the F#$% up!" ahh...smell that? that's brotherly love!
we finished that stage with a 19:07 stage time...but dammit we finished it!
the last stage we were supposed to take it easy...get it home and finish the race...lol that didnt last long..
3..2..1..go... last stage....we set a faster time than our previous run of that stage in the morning...and caught up to Kristen and Sara as we crossed the finish line...they were just getting their time card filled when we pulled up behind them... lol so m,uch for taking it easy..
but there is our race in a nutshell.
