that is for labor and parts to put down ~2000' of underground cable, conduit, and an amplifier.

 
ahh.. I would suspect that that if it were underground cables in Portland they would be run with manhole acess. that would make it very simple. my installation from TWC would involve a complete new run including digging a new ditch below frost line for 2000' and then running the cable as well as the conduit all the way to the house. Verizon may be a little easier to deal with, but their customer service is really lacking.

I have been waiting since Feb 22 for a return call from one of their people, and since Mar 2 from another (the second one I lost their contact info :

) now the new one that I talked to the other day I have contact info for and has actually put in a tag with engineering to approve the DSL connection (4200' down the road it is available and I know where the main office is) but the system says "no copper available" and I suspect that the utilities that were run to this place were put in by a private contractor to save some $$.

and I know damn well that there is copper on both ends. But if this all fails my landlord is going to be getting a lawsuit so that we can get out of this lease since I was told that DSL was available (Sattelite doesn't work for our usage).

im only here for another 3 months. so i can't see paying for cable now. but good lord do i miss it

Hey! glad you joined!

No I have had zero luck with the internet so far. I did get a quote for $14,000 to install cable at our place (2100' underground cable run). I have still yet to grab a shovel and see if they ran 4" Conduit out to the house from the road or not.

My landlord said they contacted TWC to see if they could work a deal since they are putting in 30 or so units on this property.. But yeah if you have an in let me know!

I have looked at that and it is my fall back if this all doesn't work (and would be kinda cool too)

 
I will have to take a look at where you are. We normally do not run more that 250' to 300' of house drop from pole to house. After that we need to put up hard line to get closer. Does you lanlord have cable tv service or is it all dish?

Hit me up on aim and maybe I can stop by and take a look. I can certainly talk to the people that deal with it and see what could be done.

it's all dish here. I would have no issue with the cable if we could get DSL. but I am internetless at this point.

I have one of the ATT cards that works off the Cellular tower system.

It is ok.. but a little on the slow side.

400kbps Down and UP. the Up is fine.. but I was hoping for a little speedier DL speeds.

 
sweet! I sure wish I had one of those on my trip, I was stuck holding my laptop at just the right angle pressed on the aluminum window frame of my hotel room to pick up a wifi signal a few blocks away at a bar (only one I picked up that worked) not easy to type.. glad I have a nice strong arm from holding my son. :laughing1:

fiber is all in at work too, today I was downloading something and it said 1.3 at first I thought crappy server, but than I realized it was 1.3M HA!
