Autocross 2007 Discussion

So i'm looking into buying some autox tires that i can daily drive without too much trouble. And of course i like to get the best price.

TireRack has a deal on Dunlop Direzza DZ101.

Anybody have any experience with these tires? I've read the reviews on TR, seams to be kinda mixed. One guy w/a WRX who seamed to know what he was taking about had good things to say.
My vote is for the hankook ventus RS2's. They're wicked cheap less than $100/tire at edgeracing for a 17 size tire. They're just as good as azenis sticky wise, but they channel water a lot better. O0

i know i never gave it a second thought. until pedro said something. it's not like i have anything to back up a street mod class. BUT i don't wanna piss anyone off so..... i guess im just gonna go with SM and get my ass handed to me haha

so who do i ask about the clutch?? or do i just keep quiet until someone has a problem with it? cause it's not like im gonna be competive at all. i'm probaly gonna be loseing to kids in mini vans. so does it really matter?
As long as your not setting your class on fire no one in CMC will care. It's gentleman's rules, not a police SS squad patrolling the events...if once you do a few events you start to improve though you'll open yourself up for some protests if people get upset. A clutch doesn't do much for ya in an autox since you're not usually shifting, in fact i'm surprised it's not an STX/STU friendly mod. :-

i think that im going to post on the CMC fourm. cause they way i read the rule book theres no mention of the clutch up untill street modified. then it basicly states that you can do anything. lightweight flywheel, 4 puck clutch back, any pressure plates.

as far as i can tell mines just a street clutch, with same flywheel and probaly clutch disk jsut a slightly upgraded pressure plate.

Street Prepared:15.10 ENGINE AND DRIVE TRAIN

N. Any metal clutch assembly, metal flywheel or metal torque converter

that uses the standard attachment to the crankshaft may

be used. Non-metallic friction surfaces (e.g. clutch disks) are

permitted. Dowel pins may be added. Any hydraulic clutch line

may be used. Minor repositioning of the clutch slave cylinder is

allowed to accommodate the alternate clutch, but the unit may

not be relocated and the repositioning may serve no other purpose.

This allowance does not permit the substitution of slave

cylinders or the use of non-original methods of clutch actuation

(e.g. pull type versus push type).

Translation: different clutch (also lightweight flywheel) is legel for DSP.

Ok If you read the book from the begginning of the class designation you will find in the "Stock" category this:

See Sections 3.8 and 8.3.1 for documentation requirements.Alternate components which are normally expendable and considered

replacement parts (e.g., engine and wheel bearings, seals, gaskets,

filters, belts, bolts, bulbs, batteries, brake rotors, clutch discs,

pressure plates, suspension bushings, drivetrain mounts, etc.) may

be used provided they are essentially identical to the standard parts

(e.g. have the same type, size, hardness, weight, material etc.), are

used in the same location, and provide no performance benefit. The

allowance for use of such replacements does not include camshafts,

differential covers, or ring-and-pinion sets, nor does it authorize the

use of piston rings having different configurations (e.g.

thanks pedro i missed that bit in the stock section. so you think i should just like go talk to the sts guys when i run at story land? cause it is basicly the same thing. hell i don't even know FOR SURE what's been upgraded on the clutch if anything. that's juts what the sales guy mentioned and even he didn't know anything about it. grrrr...

well i think i'll take pedro's idea i'll go be honest about what i've got and see what they want me to run in.

since this is my first couple races and stuff isn't there like a novice something or other that i need to run in?

OMG, 3 events at the Portland Jetport!!!

Does anyone know if these are actually going to be on a runwayish area or a parking lot?

It says Annex lot, but i don't know what that is.

The "Annex Lot" is a satelite lot for parking overflow. Our welcome there is contingent upon us behaving and not creating a problem for them when we use it. Basically, if the Portland Jetport feels we are being reckless, they can revoke the use of the spot for the subsequent events.

That shouldn't be a problem. Should it?!?

How big is that lot?

I might have to go check it out at lunch.

It might be. We have lost lots before from asshattery from a certain black Amurikan built car.

The dash plaques will most certainly be blue and yellow.

Anybody use or recommend driving gloves?
I don't typically. But if anything just get a pair of the cheap mechanix gloves with the suede palm.

I use them when changing tires and jacking vehicles. and if my hams are sweaty I will wear them.
