bigger sway bar+ high speed corners= dead struts

so i got a big sway bar for the rs and felt over confident through the turns and now have noticed my struts are giving up...hit a bump and it feels like i got kicked in the butt twice more, just bounces a lot.....

ill need to order new struts and want to know whats good out there? im not looking for coilovers, i do have a set of drop springs i think ill use so struts and tops are what i need....

I doubt it is the sway bar that is causing it. depending on your price range check the AGX's or go with the GR2's

I'll have to remember that about sways, even on an old sube.

I currently have two bent 15mm.. watched my chassis design in an autocross with a 20mm, and knew it was still not enough..

so now i look forward to spending stupid amount for a 22mm... and hope it is what I am after.

50% too small is the old scoobs way it seems.

Gr-2 really does it for me as well. OEM ships for the sake of fast builds, big contracts, no one cares. It is the only struts I have with gaping blow out holes in the steel cylinder, and no rust protection.

kyb literally fixed my old car, not just as an ad for kyb. I would have given up even highway rides without them. I tend to be a nut with corners as well.. to other people. In the sube world, it just happens by nature of the car (seriously).

i can get them through work for 75 bucks a piece...any suggestions for strut tops or just oem?

i do a lot of highway driving on the weekends and the off ramp that connects 295 back to 95 and the ramp from that section onto 95 are my fav....tonight i passed a statey that had someone pulled over on the other side of 95, i merged at 75 or so just in time to shift which let off a great subie growl....im sure he was pissed he couldn't catch me....hahaha

they don't go bad all that often though. so unless you need them, the stockers are probably fine.

well i wanted to get new ones so i could just throw them together with the drop springs and have a spare set of stock springs and tops just in case or for re sale....

ahh... Check NASIOC there is a full set of GC struts on there (somewhere in the first 3 pages of NESIC classifieds)

heh, matt i have a set of stock struts and springs for 60 bucks. bout 15k miles on them.

however i just got KYB AGX's just installed with H&R springs. feels great. i still need a rear sway and endlinks to complete the package though

yes. i can even deliver them

lol...you could throw across the street....ill think about it....still need another clear head light

Gr2 FTW,had AGX's,for what you pay for them,I didn't see the sense in buying them again, the GR-2s are a HUGE upgrade over stock IMHO!!!

GR2s are fine. that's what the Team O'Neil school subies run, and lord knows those cars work extra hard for their dinner. not babied, either.

the big sway on the back is one of those 'careful what you wish for' kind of things. yes, it'll make the car a little snappier in the turns (and help car rotate MUCH better in low grip conditions like snow or gravel)....but a big rear sway also means that snap oversteer is lurking on tarmac. Youll be buzzin along minding your own bizness and all of a sudden hit a turn that you come into a lil hot, or the bend tightens...or both. You naturally lift off the gas and WHOA the back end steps out and you're lucky not to get punted into the puckerbrush backwards. And lord help ya if there's a bit of sand on the pavement. BTDT, believe me.

Not trying to scare you, just realize the potential is there MUCH more than before. You just have to pay attention more while daily driving, is all.

That's good to know actually... Being that this will be my first winter in the subie I'll know what to look out for.....I think driving a loose car makes you a better driver sometimes, more throttle and brake control and better feeling in the seat

short answer to snap oversteer is, 1) -- "DON'T LIFT!" 2) -- countersteer immejitly (NOW!) and 3) -- actually squeeze on a bit of gas to help stabilize the car.

the "don't lift and gas it" part is totally counter-intuitive, but will save your bacon when the big bar bites yer butt

lots of ppl are also "late countersteerers" and we can identify them pretty quick at the Team O school (usually after having to pull car out of a ditch or snowbank)
