can anyone compare a well setup civic to a well setup 97ish impreza?

It is the actual filler neck. It is metal, you can see it in the passenger side rear wheel well, it has a plastic shield thing on it which actually holds all the dirt and causes it to rust out

I'm pretty sure its either all-power windows or all-manual. That was my experience when I was shopping.
Rust spots are what Mark said, plus the gas filler pipe, though I'm not sure how much of a problem the pipe actually is.

I had to swap a 5mt into my auto, but I haven't noticed if that is indeed the trend.

when you say gas filler pipe do you just mean under the gas flap or the actual pipe itself? (i thought the pipes were rubber)

I also had to have this replaced on the same car. It's a metal pipe connecting to the filler neck from the gas tank. Like Bratman said, you should be able to see it from the passenger side rear wheel well. Mine was dripping fuel.

Is this a simple replacement or a pain in the balls? Seems like it could go both ways esp when you consider rust.

Fairly easy with the wheel removed. And soak the screws under the gas door with pb blaster, and then be careful you don't strip out the heads when removing them.

+1000000 on soaking the bolts with PB. The only PITA part is pulling the hose over a new pipe.

buy lobstah's brighton for dirt cheap money. do either a 22t or 2.0t swap, rs front end conversion and coilovers, and you'll have a civic eater
