das GL!

1. Transmission is on the ground. If I hadn't spent so much time wasting time, it wouldn't have taken so long.

2. It didn't come out smooth enough to give me confidence it will go in again happily.

3. I'm eating a delicious burrito for lunch.

4. I need some exhaust gaskets and other stuff, but have no way of getting to town besides bicycle ....

5. Unless you have a lift and tranny jack, it's a two person job...

I really hate working on cars right now.... Hopefully when I'm done with lunch and a cup of tea, It'll all go back together without a fight.

Posting from my shop laptop. Engine and trans are bolted together. Trans is bolted to car.

It went easier than I thought... Now just to bolt everything back together, exhaust, driveshaft, shift linkages, etc. Should be easy enough.

Less of a pain than I expected. Between a creeper, floor jack, and two come-alongs. It was easy. still connecting stuff back up...

So I had an encounter with a very solid chunk of granite today. The granite won. Hands down.

My front suspension ... lost.

I also got a nice gash in the lip of my precious rimzzzzz. But I didn't bend it, so I don't give a ratts bum.

I bent the radius rod (1/2" steel rod) into a L shape. And put a nice twist in the control arm.

With about 30 minutes of heavy bench vice abuse the rod is almost perfectly straight again. With some serious control arm abuse in the vice, the control arm is pretty good too. The damn thing drives straight down the road again...

I only ripped all the skin off my pinky finger tip getting the rod bolt off.... Yes, I should have had gloves on... I was really pissed.

The GL has had lots of love lately hasn't it?
Of course it gets lots of love... Old subarus request it on a daily basis.

They get lonely and spiteful if you don't give them love often enough.

I let it sit for 3 weeks once. When I went to drive it the steering u-joints froze right up solid.... It was working fine before! No hint of an issue...

I think the Legacy made this happen in spite because it knows I want to sell it for an SVX..........

This is very common with any Subaru wheeling. But man, you must of hit that thing hard! haha. Awesome that you bent it back and it's all good!!

The wheel was turned probably close to full lock because I was trying to get out of a the ditch... If it was straight I'd probably just have bounced over the rock and been fine. I've hit some stuff bigger than that, much faster than that. But never with the wheel turned.

So my O2 censor is taking a poop. It's never reading more than 0.35V. Which is bad. It's upsetting the computer, and ruining my gas mileage. Fortunately they only cost $7...

But, I figured while I'm buying stuff, I should get front brake rotors too. I've had a cracked one for about 4000 miles now....

I've noticed a couple MPG loss lately, and the engine seems to be running a tad rich. I can smell more fuel in the exhaust than before, just slightly, but it's more noticeable. Also a very slight stumble at idle. Today I tested the O2 and it's reacting very sluggishly. Pulled a plug wire while it was running and it didn't react very fast, or enough. So Time for a new one.

I can only imagine it's going to be really fun getting the O2 out of the header... hah

Finally snapped some pics of the box that came out. Mostest Grimiest grungiest transmission I've ever seen in my life.
