Im playing with a 3gs right now. Its pretty damn quick. Even the internet is much quicker. I did a side by side with a regular 3g and it loaded jalopnik.com abotu 20 secs faster. The compass is really neat very reponsive and the video recording/editing is fun.

I wonder if that internet speed is connection speed or just processing speed (rendering the page faster after the phone has the data).

20 seconds is a lot, so I'm guessing connection speed

It's processing.

the MMS thing is probably ok to do, just make sure you have a messaging account. the only reason it's not working now is because we've disabled MMS on all iphone users over the past 2 years...d'oh.

the tethering looks a bit dangerous, a cust recently came in with a perma-bricked iphone trying to jailbreak it to tether. keep in mind tethering uses a massive amount of data and could throw up a flag

chyea, processing speed, however the 3gs is able to use the 7.1 hsdpa network, which is only in a few markets at the moment. BLAZING fast network btw

question:

one of the speakers on my iPhone 3G is completely dead. what is the process on getting that fixed? or should I bring it to the apple store?

Sell your bold on ebay then come and see me for a new 3gs.

I didn't notice it until the other day. my finger was covering one speaker while playing Sim City. and I couldn't hear anything.

and can one of you ATT guys give me some info on International Data plans? I would like to keep my regular phone over here, but if I have to I will buy one of the ripoff iphones with the twin sim deal for $50 and get a plan here.

there's only 1 speaker on an iphone

the other side is the mic.

INTL data plans blow. here they are though:

$25 - 20mb/month

$60 - 50mb/month

$120 - 100mb/month

$200 - 200mb/month

I travel to the UK a lot.

International is $1.10 a minute thru AT&T.

An international "throwaway" phone is about $30, & minutes are about .10 each.

AT&T "international" is a giant scam, and data rates are even worse.

Buy a 2G for $50 and jailbreak it, imvho.

i mean, it's not a "scam". it's just very expensive. it's cheaper than verizon and right in line with other gsm companies. it's expensive for ATT to allow people to roam on the 100+ companies they can. voice rates vary by country. 1.29/minute standard 1.00/minute discounted in most western european countries

edit: as a comparison here is tmobile's roaming rate in the UK

http://www.t-mobile.com/International/RoamingOverview.aspx?tp=Inl_Tab_RoamWorldwide

.99/minute, $15 per MB of data. (Pretty expensive, i'm sure they have lowered bundled costs. ATT per data charge is .01 per kb, or $10.24 per MB)
