New Subaru Coupe RWD: autoblog

I'll eat my hat if those headlights make it to the showroom.
quoted for promiscuity

and added to the calendar for those who would like to donate a hat. :hello:
I found just the hat to donate....while cleaning out the haul truck. it's been under the back seat for years. extreeemly skanky, mmmmmm!!!

will double-bag it in freezer grade ziploks, waiting for my chance to treat runnah to a "special lunch"

i like the concept. i highly doubt the production version will look much like that. like the Hyundai genesis the concept looked bad ass. the preproduction versions i've seen.... meh it just looks like any normal car.
+1

looks a little civic/accordish, but not a freakin wagon and RWD, so it rocks.

i'd just be happy if subaru started making cars with the 'cool' number of doors again :occasion14:

the connection people are failingto recognize here is the possibility that the FIA is tossing the idea of eliminating awd AND turbos from the WRC in an attempt to slow dwn the cars.

i see this as subarus attempt to find a 2wd chassis they can be happy with.

i like it.

no AWD or TURBOS in rally? um... isn't that what rally is?

that's like being married to a super model but sleeping in seprate beds in full pj's.

or decafe coffee, or non alcholic beer.

whats the point?

come for a ride in one of Team O'Neil';s rampaging 110-hp golfs, then see if you still think there's no fiun without AWD or the evil snail.... :idea1:

if your offering i'll take you up on that anytime.

i mean people still drink decafe and nearbeer. but... it's just not AS cool. haha

that said i grew up driving crap FWD down dirt roads so. i know there fun.

Just because it is a subaru doesn't mean it is a "rally car"

hell in all reality subaru doesn't make rally cars. People build rally cars out of street cars.

and in the not so distant past almost all rally cars were NA and RWD or FWD.

I have a feeling this is going to be a feeler for a high HP RWD street car that would definitely be right up my alley. They just might have to make the rear diff a little beefier..

what's the Tribec' use for a diff???

it may still be fun to drive 110hp fwd cars, but the vast majority of us watch the wrc and would rather see a fire breathing awd car go sideways.

well, the WRC's original fire-breathing sideways monsters were all RWD

Lancia 037

Lancia Stratos

Ford Escort Mk I & II (1700 lb cars with 240hp 2-liter carbed motors!)

Toyota Celica Turbo (pre All-Trac)

Alpine A110

Porsche 911R and 911ST

etc etc

RWD rally cars are super fun to watch...just if you're watching in person, be aware they throw gravel further

current WRC cars with al the electronix diffs and stuff, they hardly get sideways at all

Rally should be all RWD cars. AWD Should be banninated.

Andrew Havas FTW!

or at least go back to a real manual transmission with a clutch pedal and a rod comming out of the trans hump. and some good old mechanical diffs.

RWD rally e30 bmws ftw, but its now 2008 and the rwd subie needs 350hp stock and a real tranny.

if they can keep it under 3000lbs the 220 will be a good start. if it hits well the second model year will have a good turbo powerplant.

and if its rwd the tranny wont be as much of an issue.

it'd have to be a new tranny anyway since theres no front axles coming out of it.

finally a Subaru I've been wishing for.

A little pocket thing with a little NA variable valve timing engine. Bravo.

Looks like they're eye-balling the Civic Si coupe right in the wallet. Similar HP. Probly similar size.

2011 too late? Maybe not. If priced competively is will awesome. Toyota has done awesome RWD since forever. Its going to be a nice daily driver once I move down south. 35+mpg would be icing on the cake....and its possible. Subaru has been casting stuff in their block to prepare for variable intake AND variable exhaust valve timing for a while now, but only utilizing the variable intake cam on the turbo cars. And no AWD will make it (35+mpg) happen easier.

They have looked further down the road than most of us have realized.
