On a serious note, everyone should take this as a warning. When I had my first "episode", I'd had some stomach issues the previous couple of days, and simply thought I had the flu or something and was simply exhausted. But it still didn't feel right, and I knew I should be checked out. Episode 2 occured in triage at the ER, minutes after arriving. Even though I knew I needed to be checked out that morning, I felt fine. I took things slow, I drove myself, and turned out to be literally minutes from passing out behind the wheel. (Sub-warning: don't drive if you're not 100%, for your sake and everyone elses)
They could not find anything wrong with me, so they decided to keep me for observation. Serveral hours later, while on all the usual telemetry, episode 3 occured. This gave them pretty much everything they needed to know at that time.
My heart stopped for a full 10 seconds. For your body, this is an eternity. This is what prompted them to put in the emergency pacer. Between the temp and permanent pacer ops, I suffered 3 more episodes. Today, after all was said and done, my cardiologist gave me the information that had been hidden from me the entire time. Based on his observations of my telemetry, he determined my heart would not have handled another one of these episodes without a pacer. The grim reality is that I was literally within 12hrs of death this week, 2 weeks before my 30th birthday.
Those who've known me for some time know that I do smoke, and until rather recently was extremely overweight. Even with both these health concerns, I appear to have absolutely no adverse health effects because them. All signs point to this being hereditary from at least 3 generations back, and unavoidable. I also now have to get both my daughters checked.
So, here is my warning, for
everyone. If something doesn't feel right,
IT'S NOT!!! Don't try to be a tough guy (or girl), because even what seem like the simplest of ailments can quickly and easily become life or death.
GET CHECKED OUT!!!
Now back to your regularly scheduled sarcasm and humor. Feel free to make all the Miracle Max comments you wish, as I have been all week.
Oh, and FYI, the official name of a pacemaker is a "pulse generator", which is all I will call it from now on, because that has so much more awesome.
