RIP Eric Benson 8/26/85 - 5/23/10

im new too the subaru community

but i heard about the story and its horrible

i did not know him but from what ive read here he seemed like a really cool guy

i cant believe something like this could happen, and i heard somewhere that the person responsible is getting off easier than he should, which is upsetting

id like too send out my deepest condolences too all friends and family

and if we do have a rally/meet in his honor or anything ill do my best too attend

 
Some folks on motorgeek.com (034motorsport/Audi forum) expressed interest in donating, so if you get some donations from strange places, it could be them. Eric was a member there from the days when he was banging around in the old Audi.

 
thanks everyone for your support again. the decal looks great im not sure how many im gonna need yet and i dad is thinking of buy bulk (incase any of us ever get another car.). an update on the case s everyone knows. the man has been charged with man slaughter which is a class a felony and is the highest crime possible so it looks like he is truly going to pay for this.

 
My condolances to the benson family as well. I was shocked to hear about this as my girlfriend and I walked right by there about 15min prior to this happening.

On a (in my view) positive note, I just heard on the news that the judge upped the charge to manslaughter from aggrieved assault (which was rediculous). We were talking about this today at work and apparently a coworker from gray knows the assailants brother. He says googins has always been a punk. Between that and his record I hope the judge keeps him off the streets as long as possible.

 
yeah but his family is playing him as a victim too. say that he had no idea punching some one could inflict this much damage. i dont see hims as a viticim. my brother was a victim, my family and his family may be victims. but this was his choice wheter it was well thought out or not. he apparently didn't do enough thinking before he hit my brother to make a difference so why should he start thinking now.

From what I've heard from a few sources he was off getting in trouble when they were busy handing out brains.

...and his family is only doing what a family does... protecting blood. I don't blame them.

... it doesn't make it any easier though...

 
I have a vinyl guy that I've worked with (since Redline went away), so if Pedro has too much on his plate I could get these made up. I'll do nothing until I hear from him that he needs it done.

Words cannot begin to express the feeling of grief, sadness, and loss that the Benson family must be feeling at this time, so I will not even try. I generally lurk on this forum these days and do not contribute that much. I must say, however, what I find remarkable is not only the sense of community here, but also the grace with which the Benson family is handling this terrible situation. Both here and in the papers I have not seen any words of anger expressed or any lashing out at all toward the assailant by the Bensons. I think that takes a lot of class, which is entirely consistent with what I have heard about Eric.

I would not be surprised to learn that the person who committed this crime came from a difficult background and, of course, his family will defend him. At the end of the day though, I suspect (hope) Mr. Googins will spend a good many years behind bars contemplating what he has taken away, and what might have been for his life and for the life that he took. I wish you all the best with the grieving process Benson family. Fullfilling your son's dream by fixing/rebuilding his car and continuing to race for him I think will serve you well in that process.

I hope Eric becomes a reason the old port cleans up its act. Too many people fall prey to random acts of violence every weekend. Maybe people will wake up and realize there IS a worst case scenario.
