As much as it sucks that route misses the coast... It's a wise decision. If you've ever driven coastal rt1 .... It's slow.

 
There will still be plenty of coastal route 1 covered, just not much down this way. Should be a nice drive!

I am curious if you did get a hold of Acadia National Park to make them aware you are going to have like 30+ Subarus acting a fool in their park? Also, are people aware there is a Fee to get into the Park Loop road?

 
Yea...Fail on paying to get into the national park. I don't like that idea.

 
there are far more fun roads to drive on MDI rather than park loop and they are free.

Sargents Drive - northeast harbor

Hall Quarry Road - southwest harbor

indian point road - Mount desert

Seawall drive - southwest harbor

Tremont Road tremont and benard

Crooked Road - bar harbor

taking 3/198 from Somesville around back into Bar Harbor is a fun drive, down into Otter Creek.

if you take follow 3/198 into Seal cove, you can get on the last leg of loop road where there isn't a gate to get in, ending at cadillac then back into bar harbor.

I will stop now...and go back to planning my Dirt Drive. carry on.

Entrance Fees




All visitors who enter Acadia National Park between May 1 and October 31 are required to pay an entrance fee, no matter how they enter or where they go in the park. Entrance fees may be paid in the following locations:

* Entrance Station (north of Sand Beach on the Park Loop Road)

* Hulls Cove Visitor Center

* Park Headquarters

* Blackwoods and Seawall Campgrounds

* Thompson Island Information Center

* Bar Harbor Village Green

There are a number of different options for paying your entrance fee: Check out the Acadia National Park passes and the national passes listed below. Educational fee waivers may be available to groups that meet specified criteria.

Eighty percent of all fees paid in the park stay in the park to be used for projects that directly benefit park visitors and resources. We thank you for your support!

ACADIA NATIONAL PARK PASSES

Entrance Pass - $20 June 23-early October; $10 May 1-June 22 and early October-October 31

Good for entrance into Acadia National Park for one vehicle for seven days, including the date of purchase.

Individual Entrance Pass - $5

Good for entrance into Acadia National Park for one individual (pedestrian, motorcycle, bicycle, etc.) for seven days, including date of purchase.

Acadia Annual Pass - $40

Good for entrance into Acadia National Park for one vehicle for one year from date of purchase.
