The Official Craigslist Thread

Just because it has a sticker, doesn't mean it'll pass inspection... But I always tell people. In Maine if a car runs well and passes inspection, it's automatically worth at least $1000.

Just wondering if anyone recognizes this blobeye? It looks like it is in decent enough shape, obviously have to get a couple tests out of the way (comp/leakdown).

nice blobeye on CL

I'm thinking that if this thing checks out, my search for a blobeye and my modding needs could be taken care of in one shot. The FMIC would be replaced, just for insurance reasons.

I wouldn't buy an already modded car. You don't know how much that car was beat on(probably a lot by the looks of it) and what kind of shortcuts the owner took when modding.

Nah man...it's supercharged with a turbo!

It's obviously a great buy...

that was my thought. bone stock, with that milage KBB for retail is approx $17K. if it passes comp and leakdown, most of my concerns would be gone.

it doesn't seem like the dealer knows what he's holding onto. the only thing that would be hard to verify is if there has been a protune on it. but, worst case I think I could run it down to Bren Tuning and get that sorted out real quick.

a couple NESIC guys are in that area and are driving by to check it out for me. I'm really tempted, as long as it checks out okay.

come and leak down aren't the only important things on a turbo car... But you seem to have you heart set on it.

not necessarily set on it. like I said, I am having some guys local to that area take an initial look.

instead of a general statement that those aren't the only important things to check, could you pass on advice as to what should be checked? keep in mind I don't want to make a horrible decision but I do have a fair amount of disposable income. I would rather learn than walk away scratching my head. the car looks like it was put together well, but it's not like I've been down to see it myself yet.

thanks for any input, I am a bit of a noob when it comes to buying used STIs.

Turbo shaft play, condition of hoses. umm. stuff. Other turbo people should chime in.

If I had money to throw at a car, personally. I'd get a stock one and mod it. That way I would know what was done, know it was done properly, and have fun doing it. I have as much fun modding my cars as I do driving them.

if potential buyer doesn't know STIs then take car for PPI (pre-purchase inspection) to somebody who does.

it'll cost ya a few bucks but will almost certainly save you waaay more heartache and wallet pain than you spend on the PPI.

expensive cars are full of expensive parts....modded cars even more so.

Sorry...maybe my sarcasm didn't come across the internet to you...they know what they have there. They know they have a ticking time bomb that's ready to explode for the person who buys it.

Well, you're right that the car isn't for me. I talked to the person who tuned it and it is definitely not a car I'm entirely ready to maintain. It does have over 400 WHP (Bren tuned it, btw).

I'm just going to wait on anything this involved and mod my own sti a little at a time.

Thanks for the input everyone.
