The unofficial GUN talk thread

obviously i'm very behind the times in this thread, but i shot my first gun yesterday. went to the S&W HQ or whatnot in springfield (i'm from around there originally).

shot a M&P 9mm, it was a lot of fun, however much more difficult than it seemed beforehand

It looks so easy in the movies, doesn't it? I had a bit of a hard time with my S&W 9mm when I first got it. I was shooting low and to the right. I have talked to a retired New Jersey cop, who was also a shooting instructor. He told me it is grip related, and gave me some pointers. I need to get a couple of boxes of ammo, and go find a gravel pit.

you always hear about shootings where people fire 13 shots, hitting the victim once in the arm and twice in the leg or something and that sounds so ridiculous. well now it makes sense, i doubt those idiots spend much time in a shooting range. i should really start shooting a rifle so i at least have a better idea of how to line up a sight.

Picked up a PK380 last week for a carry weapon as it's a little smaller and thinner than my P99

Buuuut...It's doing this, so it's already on vacation to S&W for repairs.

Nice Ty! Where did you buy it?

Cabelas. I had meandered in looking for something with more punch to penetrate harddrives with. Ended up walking out with a damned .380  The extracter didn't seem to be working at first as it wasn't ejecting shells all the way, and sometimes leaving them still fully chambered. Then the slide started to not even come back when it fired, so after putting just 18 rounds through it, I already had to send it out.

Oh well, the M1 should have sufficient punch, hehe.

did you tear it down and lube the hell out of it? I read about walther's lack of oil from the factory being an issue. Sounds about the same as yours.

Tore it down as soon as soon I got it home as it was excessively oiled (Walther took care of that issue with extreme overkill). I remember my P99 wasn't oiled at all when I got it. After the first mag went through all screwey, I stripped it again, gave it a thorough cleaning, reoiled the necessary bits, and pit another mag through it. Same issues on the second mag, stripped it down and did it all again. Put it back together, went to fire another 8 rounds through it...first shot, slide never even moved. Had to manually pull it back, eject the shell, recock it, and fired it again...same thing, slide never even moved.

Cleaned it again, put it back in the box, took it back to Cabelas last Monday, their internal gunsmith or whatever they have took a look at it out back, and then said he was sending it back to S&W, problem unknown.

As for mowing down trees, I am definately game. I'll been blowing apart things that piss me off here at the house...but if I continue that game, most of the things I own may soon be riddled with gunfire.

that sucks. I am going shopping this weekend with Tim. see if we can find him something more suitable. and for myself? an evil black rifle yet to be determined.

hmm.... suggestions anyone?
