The unofficial GUN talk thread

Anyone have the afternoon off? Was thinking of going to sling a little bit of lead in the Sabattus area.

Was that you Ive seen a couple times today, around Sabattus/Litchfield? I was in the black WRX wagon...would have done some shooting,if Id seen this sooner....

I would have gone shooting. Just looked online at windham weaponry... they are pricy! I can buy RRA stuff for less and they have a ''better name''

How finnicky are ar's with ammo? Would I be set with some whitebox special as range rounds?

Once Its all together I was planning on buying a box of 1000 from www.cheaperthandirt.com and giving her a thourough breaking in

I have never had a problem with ammo. But the question is pretty baseless as ARs as a whole vary widely as far as tolerances and build quality.

Any thoughts on the Bushmaster E2S A1 M4 AR-15? Or a DPMS Panther A3? Couple of them for sale in Uncle Henrys right now.

Don't get the Bushy. You wont be happy if you ever decide you want to add an optic. That carry handle/rear sight is part of the upper receiver. No flat top rail.

Check these out:

This is a Windham Weaponry M4. Carry handle is removable. Top quality gun, made in Maine by the same folks that used to make Bushmaster guns.

DPMS quality, But in entry level offerings. Still shoots and acts like an AR, but missing a couple small Mill spec features like forward assist, and dust cover.

Muddy, That guy on Uncle Henry's is a dealer. Prices are Ok. I'd consider the DPMS, the Bushy can have an optic on top of the carrying handle but its kind of awkward.

Yeah I noticed he was a dealer, but the prices are decent and included tax and he's fairly close to me. that's the only reason I haven't gone to Northeastern or G3, trying to save the $50. But if nothing comes up, gonna have to go that route.

That Windham Weaponry is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for (I think) I want the dust cover and forward assist. Just a bit out of my price range. But we will see.

So assuming same features, DPMS or Windham Weaponry? I prefer buying local but the ~$100 difference makes me at least ask.

you can always check out RRA. They are great and less than Windhams stuff. Or Stag arms (first to make a left handed AR) and they are great and reasonably priced too. All USA made. Just not Maine made.

Having shot and played with the Stag Arms my roommate owns (nice gun) and, also playing with a Windham Weaponry... I can say the fit and finish is nicer on the WW. You have to realize that the folks making and producing these guns were the folks making Bushmaster for YEARS. It shows the quality. But because they are a new name it hasnt sunk in yet to the whole AR crowd. It will eventually to me become known as a top tier AR in time.

You hang that on the wall next to a crap model AR like a Hi Standard or something... and step back 10 feet and you can tell which is nicer at only a glance.

Is that worth the $100 more... That's for you to decide. These guns to me are an investment more then a purchase. I have no plans on selling mine. So I don't get wrapped up in not getting things RIGHT NOW just to get cheaper parts. I save up, and get the parts I WANT, and I only buy nice stuff.

I operate under the same principles, it's a lifetime purchase and I want quality not just cheap. I just want to make sure that $100 difference is for quality not for a name.

I just paid 340 for a.22 that looks like a 9mm. Took a pic of the sr22 and sr9c side by side but can't remember my imageshack login so I can't upload it. Break in commences tonight.
