what makes the OBS so special?

sometimes laws actually make sense. how could a car that did not come OBDII be subject to testing under those specs.

heh, my 1967 Volvo amazon sure din't need OBDII !!! (actually, I registered it as an Antique so it din't need inspection at all)

I thought 96+ subies were OBD2... while in 95 only the legacy sedans were OBD2.. ?
'96 Imprezas should be OBDII, yes. I think '97 was the year that every new car sold had to be OBDII though. Not positive.

alright guys I got pictures of the culprit

door rust, rocker rust, quarter rust, rust in the tire well...

Is this typical for subarus this age? more? less? I'm not going to pay $2000 for it. I'd like to know where you all will draw the line. Remember, it has this work done to it

This is a great car.
> 1 owner, registered and inspected

> 216,000 miles - mostly highway

> Full time - All Wheel Drive

> factory installed roof rack - I'll throw in a Yackama bike rack with it

> 6 disc after market Pioneer CD changer with remote - works great

> in dash cassette ! (hey, it was 1997)

> 1/3, 2/3 fold-down rear seats

> driver and front passenger air bags

> air conditioning works great

> ABS - Anti-lock Brakes

> power door locks

> power windows

> power steering

> tons of cargo room

> non smoking, no pets

Car very well serviced. A list of the "recently" replaced items and their approximate age in miles:

> Front struts 35,000

> Front CVs 35,000

> Brake rotors and pads 6,000

> clutch 10,000

> timing belt 10,000

> wires 10,000

> front engine and cam seals 10,000

> tires 35,000 on Toyo tires that came with a 65,000 warranty

> radiator 10,000

> water pump 10,000

> battery NEW

A few rust spots need attention.

I can't believe I'm selling this car.

heh, it was the blob of body putty patch by the roof racks that put me off the green one. it was like, "if that's how the keep the roof from leaking, wtf have they done under the hood??!!"

Well, I'm going to go take a look at it. The putty hole was done by the owner, but there is a small independent shop who has been doing all the work on the car since the warranty ran out. The owner is the original owner.

On request he got the car reinspected so I would have more time before having to get it inspected in Maine. It passed, so it's good for another year.

Assuming the gas tank isn't ****ed and all the mechanicals are in the condition he claims, I think I might go for it. He's asking $2000 but in a phone conversation he said he wouldn't go lower than $1500.

The rust is really a bummer though. Some of it I can weld in new metal but stuff like this, I don't even know what I can do about it.

some of that might be a suprisingly easy fix if you sand it down gently and skim with bondo-glass. my forester had the wheel well spot like that, and when i ground it down it was all metal "wtf?"

hmm, that rust does look bad. I'm sure someone really talented with access to an english wheel could make something to replace that corner though.

i was thinking tin snips and cheap sheet steel from tractor supply. just add arc and bam! rust fix

More like this. I need to do it on the RS this summer. The pop rivets and bondo job isn't working out. Just gotta find someone with the arc.

I see...
Idea!

Post!

Dan post!

Think about idea...

****.
I literally laughed out loud when I read this. At least you're learning. We'll break that

habit eventually.

i have a flux welder, i'm not spectacular with it, but i made my exhaust and the light bar on miked/mine/inski's (eventually) car

well I have a friend with a decent shop and a flux core welder that I am welcome to use. I wanted to paint the OBS anyway to get rid of the two tone ummm.... 'character'

Depends what you're trying to do. If you're trying to build a show car to park hard and make look pretty, I say find a better shell. If you're buying it to flog the ever loving piss out of it and don't care about looks too much, then sure, buy it cheap, and go hog wild with the welder and rattle can the thing.
