What other years are compatible with my 98 ?

The distance to the strut doesn't matter much. I have had them just barely not touching and they don't hit, they are probably hitting on something else

hmm , well when it stops raining ill have to check.

thanks

just climbed under there about an hour ago and almost lost all hope. the underneath of the 95 is so damn rusty , every single bolt is all rusty and flakey im not sure how im gunna be able to remove anything. its that rusty ! gahhhhh , I friggen hate maine.

PB Blaster it for a week straight. Unbolt what you can, retap what you break off.

I think every single bolt will break. that's how rusty they are. for instance the oil pan bolts , theyre pretty much not existent, all the bolts that hold the rear end together are just about gone too. it really makes me just want to give up instead of even attempting to work on these older cars.

They will come out. That's how most bolts are on these older cars in Maine. No need to give up. If you think those are bad, try working on even older Subarus!!! Just spray them and let them soak, you would be surprised!

well its just I always break bolts off these rusty cars and I don't have the tools to retap and such. ive been working on rusty old maine cars since I was 15 and I still suck at it. haha ill spray em and hopefully they will all come off when its time.

now I looked at this 95 motor and it seems to be in better running shape than my 98 , but the 95 has dual ports on the head so it should make finding a header much easier , beacuse if I can ill pull it out tranny and all and just drop it into my 98.

Engine will come out. The engine to tranny bolts don't usually get too bad. It might take some hammering and banging to get the engine unstuck from the tranny, but it'll come.

And yea, if you want to see rusty, come check out my 89.

hopefully the engine and tranny will come out as one.

cars don't have to get rusty here in maine. my focus has been driven every winter and I wash it atleast once a week in the winter and it has zero rust. plus I coat the underneath with a nice coat of paint.

Yea, my 98 isn't rusty at all. I didn't have one stuck bolt getting the engine out. It's had meticulous care by loving previous owners.

My 89 isn't terrible either... Not one drivetrain part, or any part under the car is original besides maybe the engine crossmember...

the only rusty parts on my 98 is the rear subframe. looks like that's gunna be a pita to change too.

Shouldn't be too bad, actually. The bolts should come out because they go through inside the car.

im talking about the bolts that hold the diff on and the the bolts for the sway bar, etc... im gunna start pulling stuff off it tonight cuz the body is just too rusty. when do you think youd be able to come help me ? im sure I can get the engine and tranny out myself. its just hooking it back up is the problem lol.

fattie.. whatchu dooin this weekend .. say... sat/ sun?? I could poss. make a trip up to see said subies and maybe turn a wrench or two

Hooking it back up is really easy, actually. Just label everything on the car. I use masking tape around the hoses so they go back on right. Top, middle, and bottom fuel hoses. Top and bottom heater core hoses, etc. There are three electrical connectors that are all bunched together to the engine, power and a harness wire to the alt, and one to the AC. That's it.

As for time... I just contracted a job (I was literally offered a job, and started right there on the spot). So I can't say for sure about time at this moment.

Everything on the motor only goes one way, pretty self explanatory. Even the fuel lines, follow them back, and they go in the order they are arranged, top to bottom.

ok that's fine , just lmk.

pretty much my only concerns were all the hoses and lines. I will label them best I can , but im not sure the names of every single part on these engines. hopefully I can figure it out. im great at taking things apart , but not so great putting them back together correctly.
