'04 Forester XT!!

Well thank you. There is more coming, but I just have to pick away at it. I have a few things just sitting on the shelf waiting to be installed right now, but I don't really want to tackle them alone. I'm really hoping for that garage day!!

I have a hard enough time affording anything for the car, so I really have no choice most of the time, but to do the work myself.

Hahaha you funny!!! How about the pay off plus a little, plus your car!! You'd still be ahead!!

So today I installed a different R160 that uses the male ended axles, actually used my original FXT rear axles. Seems quite a bit better but still has some of the weird vibration.

What was/is happening is, the inner cup on the axle is extending so much, that the clip that holds the cv joint inside the cup was popped out, allowing for the shaft to actually slide out of the joint, and slip, which was causing terrible noises. It only happened when there was weight on that corner, like when taking off and turning. So it appears that the axles are too short. Not really sure why, especially now that I have the exact same axles in the car, as were in there originally. It certainly isn't as bad, but it is still doing it a little. So it is fixed...sorta for now. At least my axle isn't going to blow up.

I said it sounded like the axles was too extended or compressed... Glad it's sortedish.

Yeah but why??? They look to be the same length as the others, and now I have the originals in there, and they still make a little noise. We had Legacy, Impreza, and FXT axles side by side today, and they were all almost exactly the same length. The Impreza, and FXT were identical!

So the whole reason for selling the BRAT was so that I could afford to buy more crap for this. So on it's way next week is......

04 STi R180 rear diff

04 STi rear axles

04 STi rear hubs

And complete rear Brembo brake set up

Hopefully this gets rid of the issues I am dealing with now, and of course there is the benefit of the much stronger set-up.

The only thing I am concerned about at all is the fact that my rear rotors will now be almost as big as the fronts. If it does end up being an issue I will buy special rotors that fit over the STi ebrake, and accommodate the 06-07 2 pot rear caliper. But I'm hoping it will all be good after this.

If it's too much braking power in the rear they make adjustable proportioning valves so you could dial it in.
