Decided on my mods

your call on exhaust, I got my SPT used so it was pretty affordable compared to new. is that $400 saved worth possible warranty hassels?

Hrrm, reflash -- you are 100% on your own for that!

:D

well the issue with my clutch has been noted twice to soa already with no mods done to my car so they cant blame it on that. i almost dont want to buy an spt exhaust out of pricibale. i bought there top of the line car and they have a better exhaust system designed for it but cant put it on the car from the factory when im paying all that money?

so will i see any performance gains from just a exhaust system or will it be purley sound?

bad tuning is worse than high boost levels.....im running 23 lbs in my car....
what would happen if i got stage one tune and added a downpipe and didnt get stage two flash? would car run like poop? i really have no desire to put over 18-19lbs of boost in the car

SPT is def louder than most ppl would want on a brand new STI, which after all is designed for a broader market than just petrol-heads here on MS

if it sounds good, dooo eeet.

i just looked up a sound clip sor the spt and it does sound pretty nice and i agree with what you say about not voiding the warranty but i still wan tto do an intake and even if i do a spt i need a tune to make them worth while and as soon as i tune i could possibly have warranty voided if the parts cause a problem

the good thing is the dealer has to prove the aftermarket part caused the problem to occur before they can deny the warranty. that's why i want a flash system i can put back to stock if need be

I know that your car will obviously run. What I'm saying is that other than the noise, you're not really gaining all that much, if anything, in exchange for skewing your MAF scaling.
Im not a subaru teck or even much of a moter head but if you go to the Cobb tuning website you can see that the 02-07 wrx,sf intake is designed to be totally compatible with both stage 1 and stage 2 off the self maps. All while running 91 octane gas.I agree in it self the intake wont gain you power, but it can be a nice little engine upgrade[bling factor for show]and gives you a louder snarl at take off....As for Cobb Tuning,I personaly believe in thier reasearch and design team, working out all the bugs to end up with a very safe product for our cars..How many companys can you still talk with the owner if you have to,and like the idea that im helping a local usa company.

that is the SPT intake....pretty much the same as the COBB
not a bad deal at 1779 with the coupon code. and nice gains of 80 ftlb and 60 whp. the filter they give you seems like a joke and pretty much not much help at all. what i dotn liek is they dont say what they tune the car to via lbs of boost etc

There was a couple of YouTube vids where Whiteline and another company did a head-to-head in 08's or 09's (STI's I think). What they did was add power mods to one and handling mods to the other. It was a good watch and might give you some ideas on which direction you want to go. I know it's going to be harder for you to find a good combo of stuff that you like. The 08-09's don't really have the kind of aftermarket support and history that the other years do. I know that when I went to stage I in my WRX it was a good kick in the pants. No exhaust, no intake needed. On the other hand, most people who only drive on the street skip mods that gain more but don't have the pezzaz. IE. tires before suspension or training before anything (I am definitely guilty of this myself). But I understand that your STI simply may not have the git-up-and-go that you want while the handling is perfect for your style of driving.

Also, just a comment, but I wouldn't try to compare anything you are doing to an STI to what you did to a Focus. Completely different animal, what works for one may not work for the other.

Unless the 08-09 Cobb maps are different, the stage I is for stock hardware and you can only move to stage II with the addition of a downpipe. And everybody says that you SHOULD NOT run a downpipe without stage II. Once again, unless 08-09 is different the AP comes with both stage I and II along with a whole bunch of others, so from the side of tuning, moving from I to II does not cost anything. The cost is in the hardware. Also I thought that Cobb maps did not change the stock boost mapping (which bumps you into a prepped class in AutoX, I think).

running stage II boost isn't going to hurt your car
lol unless you have studies done to prove this i would rather not take the chance. im sure chances are it iwll be ok but its more boost than i need getting into the 20lb catagory

i know i want to go power over handling on this car. on my svt i had a bad ass handling car. h&r race springs koni adjustabels frotn and rear sway bars and strust tower braces new bushings and moter mounts. For a fwd car it was nasty in the corners. But i used to auto-x and do track days with that car so that was really important to me. i dotn see myself ever auto-xing this car and probably only a few track days if any.

now i want a car that can do really well int he corners wich this can but i want some balls for the straight aways. something i can take out on my day off and put a smile on my face when i press that pedal down to the floor( wich it does now but i want a bigger smile lol ) hell this being my first awd car i think it handels amazing and i know it only pulls .89g on the skid pad

Nigel is 100% correct.

Why, exactly, are you ******ing with a perfectly good, new, WARRANTIED, 300HP, (again) NEW car?

Aren't the monster payments enough, without warranty claims being shot down by SoA in the first year?

Your OEM clutch is OEM crap, wait and see if anything else craps out before you open this can of worms.

A quick Q: Can you drive your new STi to its' peak abilities already?

Since you won't drive it in the rain, I doubt it-no offense.

Auto-X it, stock, & run some eighths and quarters...& actually learn the car before you modify it all to hell.

My STi became a race-car-for-street by sheer necessity-it fell apart due to previous abuse,& I had it slowly rebuilt, to top quality specs, at great cost, over the past 2.5 years.

Also, you're FAR too concerned about nickels & dimes, the best parts are a cost-be-damned investment, & remember, eBay-esque parts get eBay-esque results. Spend the Right Money, Once. You'll be happier you did.

first of all i would put my driving skills up agaisnt anybody on this board. i have had 5-6 track days and countless auto-x's and lord knows how many mountain runs. i never said anythign about not driving my car in the rain so not sure were you get that from. its ok i understand if you dont want me to mod my car so its faster but i promise you would love the way the new sti looks from the back

as far as why i am messign with the car who on here could say yes my stock car is fast enough. everyone wants a faster car that sounds better. soa wont be voiding my warranty if i put on a exhaust system. they have to prove my modification caused the issue.

also i never said anything about ebay eque parts a magnaflow exhaust is far from cheap as well as the other parts i was wanting to install.

its funny a guy with a modded car is telling me not to touch myne. as i said befor yes i have 305 hp but that's at the fly not the wheels it more like 220 or so. now if i had 300 at the wheels and was moddingyou coudl call me a moron

if you think me wanting to put on a exhaust system an intake and tune it is stupid then you are not a true car nut. now if i was talkign abotu puttign a new turbo and injectors and intercooler in a brand new car yes that's stupid but the parts i want to put on are very basic and simple
