Decided on my mods

I would love to know how your getting more power without more boost

the same way a n/a car gets more power. getting better air flow coming into the car and out of the car and getting a good tune. while adding bost is the easy way to make more power( wich i do want to add like 3-4 lbs) its not always the most reliable

so can anyone explain to me how that xpt flash works if you dont have any hardware like an acess port?

1) first of all i would put my driving skills up agaisnt anybody on this board. i have had 5-6 track days and countless auto-x's and lord knows how many mountain runs.

2) i never said anythign about not driving my car in the rain so not sure were you get that from.

3) its ok i understand if you dont want me to mod my car so its faster but i promise you would love the way the new sti looks from the back
default_biggrin.png

as far as why i am messign with the car who on here could say yes my stock car is fast enough.

3) everyone wants a faster car that sounds better.

4) soa wont be voiding my warranty if i put on a exhaust system. they have to prove my modification caused the issue.

5) also i never said anything about ebay eque parts a magnaflow exhaust is far from cheap as well as the other parts i was wanting to install.

6) its funny a guy with a modded car is telling me not to touch myne. as i said befor yes i have 305 hp but that's at the fly not the wheels it more like 220 or so.

7) now if i had 300 at the wheels and was modding you coudl call me a moron

if you think me wanting to put on a exhaust system an intake and tune it is stupid then you are not a true car nut. now if i was talkign abotu puttign a new turbo and injectors and intercooler in a brand new car yes that's stupid but the parts i want to put on are very basic and simple
1) I'm glad you're an "excellent driver".

Your STI stands a better chance at staying whole, that way.

Auto-X and race your stock STi and get a real feel for it, no matter how "excellent" a driver you are, you don't have that car sorted, even stock, as short a time as you've owned it.

2) Sorry, you won't drive it in the snow, my bad.

3) You have many (many) modifications to go, and many (many) thousands of dollars, before my '05 "sees the back" of your car, if ever.

4) INCORRECT.

Get the Modification/Warranty Service Bulletins from your SoA dealer.

SoA can (and will) void your warranty if you have issues and they even think that your rally-x'ing or racing your car.

Then, it's up to you to prove them wrong.

Step away from Law & Order re-runs: SoA does NOT work like the American Justice System, where you are presumed innocent until they prove otherwise. The SoA warranty loopholes are excessive and stem from too many people using STi's as the purpose-built cars that they are.

5) Just some advice, and Magnaflow is a 'Vette exhaust, no matter if they make a Soob model, or not.

6) Actually, your car dynos closer to 250whp...About 245 is normal, OEM.

Figure a 15% drivetrain loss, not 25%, as that's incorrect.

Like I said before, my STi got where it is by previous owner abuse.

If I'd known that I was gonna' be about $55,000.00 deep into a $23,000.00 "winter beater STi" when I bought it 2.5 years ago, I would have saved a hell of a lot of aggro and bought myself a brandy-new STI, and saved myself about twenty G's. Oops-my loss, and experiences, could be your gain, if you'd listen.

7) If you had over 300 at the wheels, you'd be in my STi.

Addendum:

I thought that "I would like to know how your getting more power without boost?" was a silly question, too.

lol i hope you know im not mad or pissed especially comment 3 i just like having some fun.

i dotn want to drive it in the snow because well this car is soemthing i have wanted for may many years and the 09 is somewhat of a rare car so if i can avoid gettign it covered with salt i dont see why that's a bad thing. i plan on some poi nt way down the road making this a neck snapping car only to be used once in a while

as far as the exhaust goes i dont see why it matter who they originally made magnalfow for. it is made of good quality material has nice bends and has a nice low growl to it

sot stixxx do you know how that xpt flash works by chance and if i need to buy any hardware to use it liek access port?

Hi Bro.

Not "mad" at all, a little spirited debate makes the 'boards fun.

I'm not familiar with XPT flashing, if I was you, I'd call Enhanced Street Performance in Mass (Google) and see what they recommend for your car.

Personally, I'd go w a custom map, through an Accessport, and have ESP do it when they do intake/downpipe and exhaust...Also, look into a flexible up-pipe, if you add more boost the OEM gaskets blow out like clockwork, and a flex-pipe stops that nonsense dead.

The '09 STi is growing on me, like a fungus, these days.

Bring your car to Oxford today, run some 1/8ths with me and let's see how they stack up?

I'll be there around 2pm, weather permitting, in the black STi.

Let me know.

sorry i got daddy duty all day long so no go for getting out of the house. lol you just want me to come so you can rub my previous comment in my face
default_biggrin.png

so even with 4 more lbs of boost you dont think the gaskets will hold up?

Alright so I just read all of this. So just do everything in my first post and everything will be peachy. I dont expect you to just listen to me blindly but trust me I have done this twice with two heavily modified sti's. The list I gave you is what I would put and stick with if I bought myself a new sti.

22psi is perfectly fine for a stock block. You wont hurt anything and you dont really have a choice if you want stg 2. Xpt maps are awesome and there are quite a few people on here that are running them now. Your car will perform like it was made to.

I have no problem recommending people upgrade to stg 2 its everything past that when I start to get nervous. I like whiteline cause im not a fan of cobb.

You save $100 on the invidia which is worth it. imo of course.

I agree with stixxx and nigel as well I would enjoy your car stock for as long as possible and then when you are bored out of your mind then go stg 2.

Aw, hell, bring the kid, my GF's bringing hers-that's what bleachers & hot dogs are for.

If ya wanna' run, am sure my GF will watch the rugrat(s) while you get some baseline runs in...

Fyi,

'Modding is a disease.

There is no Cure.

It can and will break some people.

Broken STi's are EXPENSIVE and SoA are motherphuckers when it comes to them covering their parts on your for-the-street rally car, so PLEASE watch your step.

I do NOT want to see you do a "Where can I find a motor that fits my '09, SoA gave me the high, hard one" thread....A new motor is about $8,000.00 and that doesn't include lots of racing bits or the turbo, trust me, I know these things... Sigh.

C'mon.... Let's race!!

To install a xpt map you download it from there website and flash it onto the car from a laptop using a tactrix cable. A few of us have said cable if you dont want to buy one. I would just buy one since they are less then $200 or the older verison used for less then $100.

do you knwo what they bump the boost up to for stage one and stage 2?

if i decided to just go stage one and did inatke and exhaust would that work fine? or would i need a custom tune adding that exhaust on there with no downpipe?

You really should get a tune even if you just get an intake. You have to get a tune if you get a downpipe. You dont need one for a cat back.

so if i get catback and a cai just a stage one tune should be fine? i dont see myself doing these mods for a bit anyway but if i do the downpipe will be way down the road im thinking i will only have the money for cai and catback and stage one tune in the spring

A Nasty FYI: An ECU re-flash will potentially void your factory warranty.

If you have an issue with your car and take it to a dealership, they can tell that the ECU has been f'd with, and from what I'm told, even the Cobb AccessPort re-flashes show up, even if the car has been "re-set" to the OEM map and the AccessPort disconnected before the dealership looks at it.

Modifying a new STi is tricky, tricky, tricky.

Imo install the CAI (imo Cobb's is great, btw) and cat-back, (I like what I did, a lot: custom piping and a Vibrant "muffler",) and not an exhaust "system", personally.

...And see what you think, without a reflash. The OEM computer will "learn" a new CAI and cat-back, effortlessly.

If you want serious power from exhaust upgrades, then the cats must go, or at least be changed to hi-flow units, which still mess with the SoA warranty bs.

I envy you an "unmodified" STi.

If you flog the piss out of it, but stay within guidelines, a dealership will fix its' boo-boos.

Every time I hear a knock or ping, it's two-freaking-grand, it seems.

Please, take the time and appreciate what you've got in your new STi, it won't be long before your warranty is gone (for one reason or another, lol!) and you'll be in the same boat as the rest of us: The owner of a fancy, fast-as-hell car that's not as reliable as one would hope, that co$t$ a boatload of money to drive the way it was meant to be driven.

Race cars are expensive, and you, my friend, are the proud new owner of one.

Congratulations, um, er, I think.

you can get an spt cat back and exhaust. I think you will gain a few hp and it wont touch your warrenty.
