Now that I own a Subaru

true...but it was goin sideways carefully. (at least usually)

underbody was well armored with proper skidplates, so ok there are some dents n dings under there but in my time with the car nothing underneath damaged bad enough to require replacement. (excluding wear items like tires and struts of course)

this car is a testament to the toughness and durability of the basic Impreza platform

So how much of an upgrade is this car over my cavalier?

You can't divide by zero

My brother and his friends all have Subaru WRX and impreza and said this subaru will give me a reason to drive when I don't have any thing to do.

my cavalier on the other hand I never took it out much

I agree with all of the above^^^^ and id like to add that maybe joining http://www.rs25.com/ or http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/ might be good resource's for info / ideas to help you along your way.... plus come join in on one of the autocross's its cheap safe and fun! and you don't need any thing special to join in my first race was in a 92 legacy L auto with 3 bald tires and no reverse.

So true! If I'm bored, or having a really terrible day. I'll take my Legacy down some choice back roads, or take my GL offroading, through some mud. And it makes my day so much better.

Subarus are such fun cars. You'll love it.

One thing most modders should keep in mind is that anything you do to modify the car beyond subtlty should be abke to be undone in a weekend. I have a face full of lights, axleback, head unit with sub etc. I kept all my origional parts and can have it back to factory in a weekend so in the event I trade it I won't take a beating for having a modified car

Whats a good Engine for the 2.5RS if I decide to change it down the road? I was looking at a 2002 WRX Engine for 600$, 2004 STI Engine 2000$ and a 2007 STI Engine for 3500$

Why is STI engines more expensive then there WRX counter parts?

well.

1. Id like to know where this 600$ wrx engine is/ condition haha

2. wrx and STI engines are 2 totally different animals, STI is a 2.5, different turbo, everything is different. wrx's are a 2.0, smaller turbo blah blah....

3. would you be doing the work? wiring is a pain... a PAIN... when it comes to merging harnesses and such with a swap.

In my honest opinion I would leave the 2.5 in the RS, learn to drive the car to its potential at rally-x and auto-x, suspension will make your car so much more fun to drive and it wont cost more then you paid for the car!

just my opinion on things!

and yes I did plan on doing a 2.2 turbo build for my OBS, but I lost the job I was going to have this summer and those plans have come to a slight..mountain in the road :/

Depends what year wrx engine you're talking about. 2005+ was a 2.5

Well Ray, aren't the 2.5L Engines in the 2004 and up WRXs very similar to the STI with the STI having the larger turbo and intercooler, some other goodies. Then in 2009 the WRX and STI share the same turbo so there are even less differences. Wasn't it like 220hp for the 2002, 225hp for the 2004 thru 2008 and 265hp for 2009 thru present right? Im not sure of all the differences but once you get to 2009, a lot of the parts are transferable, but an STI engine still has a lot of differences. The WRX nowadays is 265hp where the STI is 305hp I believe and the STI can be built to much higher power levels more easily. I think it can take higher boost levels too. Like I said, I don't know all the nuances.

2006 was the first 2.5l WRX engine. That's why I bought one. But the STI engine has forged internals, and such extra costs.

^ 2006 then, I stand corrected. But you still can't make the wrx=2.0 generalization..

Riiiight.... Yeah mine too. Lol. It also came with a 10 speed transmission, nitrous, and methanol injection.

One of my friends who owns a WRX has a spare 2.5RS Carbon Fiber OEM hood laying around that I am going to get for free.
