SpinmasterT's 2.2l turbo swap

You need a downpipe and an exhaust mah brother

Nice Job, came out great!!

With an intercooler, an MBC and a fuel cut defender (to bypass the 13PSI fuel cut), and spending less than $200 in the process, you can spank a WRX. I'm running stock boost right now (9PSI) and it pulls HARD, cant wait to get the FCD and turn it up to 14PSI

You check that IC out over on legacy central?,

Yes I did .. I don't have any $dough$ right now though :- I wish I did, I would snag that up. If it's still there later this week, I'll probably grab it. I already have an MBC so I'm good there .. what's this other stuff your talking about?

I also need to figure out my shifting problems first ..

I checked the tranny fluid which managed to somehow be low even though we made sure it wasn't. Shifting is a lot smoother now except for two things:

Won't shift to next gear until about 4k

I can be driving around in first, and unless I stomp it to get to 4k, it stays in first, same with second, third ... so basically I'm always driving around in 3rd while in town.

Won't go to redline, wil shift at about 4.2k when at WOT

If I floor it, it'll re up like it's supposed to, then it just shifts at 4.2k. It will go to redline if I manually select the gear, but then I run the chance of over-revving ...

Do you know? ???

There is only one way to fix that.. Swap in a manual!

Haha, those are the plans!

Until then tho, I'd like this one to last me

Alright, last coat for now ... I need time for it to dry and I'm almost out of paint anyway. I decided to go with the red scoop and vents to try it because one of my cans of black wasn't spraying right .. I fixed it but I ended up using both cans on the hood. If I don't like it when it goes on, I'm gunna do all black, but I did test the red, and it's pretty close .. a bit lighter, but I don't think it'll be too noticeable with it being separated from the other red.

Here it is, the final product ... the red is slightly different, but it's hard to tell if you aren't standing right up close ... I like it a lot!!

Nice job, man! I like it too!

However, IMHO.... let the paint cure more than that! Yikes! That stuff will chip in a heartbeat!

Haha, too late :

I needed to drive it.

Should I clearcoat it too, or will that ruin the flat blackness?

yeah the black hood looks pimp. i would have tried to hammer out that dent or what ever that was. but the car looks great man! good work!

I don't think the dent is gunna come out so easy .. it looks like someone took a punch, and hit it with a hammer. I think when I have it done, I'll see if they can fix it .. however I could be wrong.

And thanks, I like it too

To get a lot of performance out of that engine you need a few things, all of which are relatively cheep

1: turboback exhaust.....I found a used TurboXS downpipe (catless of course) and had a shop in LA make me an exhaust. Total cost....325

2:intercooler....the slanty old skool one fits in there perfectly. You ABSOLUTELY need an intercooler before you can run higher than stock boost levels. That one is the cheapest and easiest ...total cost ....$66 shipped

3:manual boost controller.....allows you to turn up the boost after you intercool...$20

4:fuel cut defender...the stock Legacy ECU will "cut" the fuel being fed to the engine if it senses a boost condition of 12-13PSI. You can run 14 PSI on the stock fuel system, but you need a way of getting around the ECU. A fuel cut is an electronic gizmo that fools the ECU so you can run more BOOOOST

http://fcd.chrispaiano.com/ .....$50

But...you need to square away your tranny deal first....Look forward to seeing it

Yah meng, that looks awesome. You were right, the black and red combo. I think the black lights help it to all come together.

Maybe in like a year when I'm allowed outside again I can look at your shifting problem.

Thanks Rad, I wanna check yours out too, and thanks for all the info. I wasn't quite sure what to do next, but I did know I needed an intercooler of some sort. I <3 Boost >
