Event: Eric Benson Memorial Dirt Drive

When: Sunday November 28th

Where: departing at Milford On The Run, Milford Maine

When: 10:00am start

Entry: $10 dollar per car donation to the Eric Benson Scholarship Fund

Starting Point - Google Maps

OK! heres the deal... I just got home from mapping out and creating a route book for what could be the BEST group drive EVAR!

232...yes TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY TWO miles of roads with over 170 of them being NOT PAVEMENT.

there is something for all types. From fast flowing hard gravel roads to slow and steady crawling over dips and rocks. nothing on this route is impassable OR a car breaker. (unless you are out of control)

the route will begin in Milford Maine, at the Mobil On The Run gas station. fill up and bring drinks because it will be a while until you see another store... you are more likely to see Moose before you see another store.

the trek will lead us back and forth across AWESOME Forest roads, with a few jumps along the way to keep it exciting!! our morning destination is the Mobil On The Run in PRINCETON, Maine. little lunch break, top off fuel if you need to, grab more drinks and get ready for one of the BEST gravel roads in the state.

from there we head over to lincoln and a what is possibly the longest tarmac stretch of the event...roughly 25 mile commute to the next leg. but well worth it.

once we finish the last leg of the drive, we should be back where we started at the Milford On the Run.

please if you are please bring the following:

a CoDriver to read the route book

Tow Strap

if you have a 2 way radio bring it.

a spare tire, make sure your spare is properly inflated (full size spare is best, donuts will get you home)

snacks, drinks and anything you may need along the way.

Its a long way to walk if you pooch it or break it. drive to the level you feel comfortable. just because that guy infront of you did that corner that fast...doesn't mean you can too.

I am hoping to secure someone with a truck who wants to do the drive as well as a sort of sweep vehicle

nobody will be left behind to get lost or fend for them selves.

The idea of the Memorial Dirt Drive came about after talking with Andrew Benson about it, and we thought it would be a great opportunity to raise money for the Eric Benson Scholarship fund, which provides assistance to Students from Westbrook High who wish to attend school at UMF for science programs.

in addition to the donation entry fee, im almost certain Andrew will have the EB decals available for sale as well. come join us and raise money for a great cause.

As i mentioned, you will NEED a codriver, someone to read the route book while you drive. find someone to buddy up with who wants to go but not bring their car in the dirt!

route book will be TSD format with mileages and Tulips. these are not stages notes and wont tell you corner by corner details like in a rally. you will be driving what you see.

that is what the route book will look like and i will give a brief overview of how to read it for anyone who needs help.

THIS IS IT GUYS. I've done some of this drive with RezPunk before, it's amazing. It makes the kank look like a school zone.

27th is my Bday and I had planned on going out for it, but if it must be the 27th I'll do my best to be there.

In other news, sis might be interested in running sweep with her jeep. We'll see once the date is hammered out.

That sounds like fun. Think I should get some better tires on my outback (free tire pile ones are iffy). I think that would be a good day for me. Plus I'm only about 8 miles from milford mobile.

I think The 28th would be better..

Was planning on being in Boston that Saturday...

Believe me when I say, this is a great route.. I've personally picked some of my favorite sections of roads.. Even a new road that I had never been on.. heh As said before, there are no car breakers unless you break your own car.. These roads are Snow Tire Safe, and even Summer tire safe (I've been on most of these roads on normal summer tires...) it will be fun!!!

i was also thinking that close to december would lead to a greater chance of snow. do you have dbl class all month? is there another sunday you are free?

it was brought to my attention that it would be best served if the drive was on a SUNDAY, that way we dont get shot at by hunters and Logging trucks are not operational.

this is going to be true.

now to pick the sunday that works best for everyone.

i know im not on here a lot but i have driven these roads a bit. THEY R GREAT. i would like to see this happen the first sunday in nov. the foliage should be nice then too. we seem to be peaking early this year.

Ok Route Book is done (needs to be verified by RezDog)

but its ready to go to print...one week away i will get copies of this made and everyone will get a copy when they show up at the starting point.

also i can email anyone the file if they want to print it out themselves ahead of time. which would save me the hassle and expense

Sounds sick!!!! I grew up 2 miles from the Costigan Mill, and know that road quite well. I don't know if I'll have the clutch done in my car by then, Need to do it on a Saturday and opening day is next weekend. Car probably won't be back on the road til mid December.

I am goin to my first meet this sunday to n.h with you guys but is this one as chill of a ride like the white mt.'s ride is gonna be? only asking cause just bought my first wrx only a month ago and dont know how hardcore these meets get haha and don't wanna go over my head quite yet not to be a panzy

this will be a little more intense of a drive than the White Mountains, that's for sure. These are roads just like you would see in a Rally, there are pot holes and rocks sticking out of the road in some places. we are going to try and get the rocks painted on the route, but not sure if we will have the time.

ok so far it hear:

November 28th - Thanksgiving weekend

November 6th - which is also the same weekend as the NER Rallycross in VT and the RC Euro Rallycross in NJ.

and

make it a Saturday...

like i posted before, i think Saturdays are out due to hunting season, there are a lot more vehicles on the roads due to hunters.

keep the dates coming...once we establish a majority we can set a date.

aight so its ok for me to chill out behind everyone right? haha

of course! that's the whole idea.

its not going to be a blistering attack of the roads... its designed to be a scenic drive to see some parts of maine you may never have seen before.

i will be the last on in the line to make sure everyone is on course.

and if you feel more comfortable being the navigator for someone that is ok too!

when making the route book yesterday and driving the route, we saw two moose along the way! cant guarantee a moose sighting for the drive, but the chances are EXTREMELY good we will. amazing animals to see in the wild.

Its looking like November the 28th is going to be the date.

i know this is Thanksgiving weekend...

Sorry if this excludes people, its just SO hard to find a date that works for 100% of those interested. Also the 28th is the only weekend the Lead Car (my brother ReZDoG) can make it.

I will be working with Andrew Benson (Abenson100) to come up with some possible ideas for a possible Eric Benson Memorial Dirt Drive!! stay tuned!
