The unofficial GUN talk thread

Thought this might be a place to post this:

Looking to borrow a handgun from someone for this weekend (Sat Oct 30th). I am enrolled into a handgun safety class so that I can apply for my concealed weapons permit. A couple years ago I (stupidly) sold my Glock 40 I had, and don't plan on buying something again till after I get my permit. As part of the class we will be popping off some shots. Size doesn't matter, but I have to buy 100 rounds of ammo, so maybe something basic like a 9mm or smaller might be best. Heck I wouldn't even be opposed to a full size .22 hand gun. Ruger maybe...

are you doing the cabelas class this weekend?

If you are I remember the guy saying that they had loaner pistols for the range quals. There was nothing about actually hitting the targets, only that you showed proper dicipline with the weapon.

No its not at Cabelas. Its a local class given by a retired Police officer. Hes giving all Lewiston municipal employees the class for $50, and it includes lunch.

there is a CCW class at Cabelas on the 31st. Check on the site for seminars. there is contact info. I just didn't want to have to go to Norway for range quals.

Ah, yes, that's a bit far. For $120, I shouldn't have to get in my car and drive for 45 minutes to get my range time done. I've been meaning to take Howells course, but they're always doing it on rally weekends...

I am doing one in scarborough in dec. it is cheap, but there are two nights and an entire day for the course. for $50 I can't complain.

wow, do you guys all live in areas that require a class for a permit? i just had to show my hunters safety course car to the police chief in oxford and fill out paperwork. maybe i just had it easy?

You had it easy....

The hunter's safety course is a "class". That is what is required in the state of Maine. This is just an NRA course that covers the state's legal stance on self defense shootings and protecting your home.

I don't really hunt. So this is more of a value to me.

x2, I can't shoot anything with a pulse unless it's shooting back. If you're made out of paper, clay, or beer can though, you better stay the hell out of my way, haha.

Who's putting on the course Pedro? Knowing my luck, it is during the Wolf Chase rallycross...

I was going to go hunting this AM, but I lazied out of it. Mainly due to my new purchase. Stayed up too late oogling over it. We'll have to do a Mainely outing to the indoor range in Belmont, NH this winter. Practice makes perfect.

I dunno, I am doing the course with a friend, we are going as a "couple" since the couple's price is $100. She has signed us up and I just need to send her the $$.95

Freshly out of my NRA handgun class. Safe to say I'll be gun shopping this week. I have the BUG again. Now that I'm in a different mindset about things, and will be looking for a gun to conceal more then sport shoot with. I'm actually thinking about picking up a Glock 26. Sub-compact 9mm. I can always buy more plinking guns later.
