The unofficial GUN talk thread

So I'm in the market for an inexpensive .223. Something to put a cheap scope on and just have kicking around for random pest control. Prefer super compact and or youth models. Rossi has gotten real expensive, and I don't have faith in these cheap guns at wallet world. And before Nate tells me to buy an ar, no. Inexpensive is key. Like to start shooting longer distance, and I know.223 is powerful enough for what I have in mind but won't break the bank practicing

600 each rifle and pistol. It's not as much a shooting class as it is a tactics class. Lots of working in and around the vehicles in the day light dry and live... then night time live fire.

Might have a little side training going on around then also.

I highly recommend everyone that owns a gun get some formal training at some point. You don't need to take it to the extent that I enjoy it, but training is priceless. No matter how good you think you are, you'll only get better under the watchful eye of someone that truly knows what they are doing.

I posted it elsewhere online, but wanted to put it here too. Does anyone own a 16ga shotgun? I have a bunch of ammo I have no use for. 100+ rounds of assorted bird shot. Trade for 9mm, 45acp, or $25.

Remington R1 1911 mag issue today.  Nate, you ever have issues with the R1 mags not going to slide lock when empty?  Its never happened until today, at a match of course.  Guess I need more Wilson mags.

Honestly... I never did in the few times I used them. But I run Chip McCormick power mags now.

Can't go wrong with Wilson's though. I'm wishing I went that way myself.

Eventually I think I'm going to get 2 more eight round Wilsons, and 3 or 4 McCormick ten rounders.  Seriously loving this trigger/slim frame/solid feel of the 1911.  The old timers at the matches warned me against switching back and forth between G34 and 1911.  They said stick with the G34 until I earn higher classification.  I'm thinking I'm going to do both.

Note on the CMC 10 round mags. It may not come into play in comp shooting, but I found the followers to be unreliable when you started dropping the mags on the ground. They feed 100%, but they just hated being tossed down. The spring and follower would fly out the top of the mag.

I ended up with Tripp research rebuilds kits with plastic anti tip followers. Great upgrade. But they decrease capacity to 9 rounds. Now I have too much money into super reliable 9 round mags. If you don't need the extra one round, stick to Wilson 8 rounders.
