AR's shoot so much more then .223. They make an ideal hunting rifle with the correct variant upper. A 6.8spc upper and good scope its on my short list now that my .223 build is mostly done. Then i'll work on a new lower in time to have two complete guns.

I just couldn't justify spending so much on a complete rifle to tear it apart and spend more money on an upper. I'd could buy 3 more barrels for my encore for the cost of an ar with 2 uppers. But lack a followup shot.

I would hardly consider pushing 2 pins and pulling the upper off "tearing it apart". I only do that every time I clean it anyway. Spend the money and just buy one in 6.8spc to start. Done deal.

You can bit all the barrels you want for all the find you have... And they still aren't an AR. They are in a class of there own.

sure 6.8 is great for hunting but murder on your wallet. but I have debated this very idea.

7.62 just seems a better choice if you want to go cheap. sure you will never get sub moa groups. but most deer don't care.

the 6.8 isn't horribly expensive, we just have to drive 50 miles to cabelas and hope they have what we want for the little sisters tc contender. I love the round, it's accurate and supposedly ballistically close to .243

and nate, I just don't think ar's are my thing. I think they're cool, and have a purpose, but I just don't think I have a need/practical use for one. for deer once a year and coyotes, .243 and .270 winchester model 70's work just fine for me, but then again I've never had a semi auto high powered rifle. I may shoot an ar in 6.8 and fall in love.

I'm not worried about the price of ammo. Its not for plinking. That's what the .223 upper is for. Its for hunting. I plan on starting a build myself. Shouldn't be more then $500 for the upper, then a scope. Buy a quality gun for that....

Not to beat a dead horse, but that's exactly what I paid for my encore rifle, complete, lnib. When you complete the 6.8 I'd be interested in seeing it and maybe trying it, I'll bring ammo

And isn't 223 ammo still kinda pricy for plinking?

And has anyone seen a 6.8 in a bolt action in their travels? Remington supposedly makes one according to the shooters bible, but all I've seen is contender barrels and ar uppers, no complete guns

6.8spc is a round that was developed for the AR specifically. It's a large caliber round made to fit through the lower receiver of a standard AR.

I knew it was developed specifically for the ar, but the round is gaining popularity and remington supposedly made a bolt action with 6.88 chambering. I'd be interested to see what they go for, or if they'll even catch on

Tada.

Holster is hook and loop mounted inside the big zippered pocket on the left.

Did a little bench rested target shooting with the Aimpoint today. These shots were at about 60 yards. It proves that the gun is more accurate then my eyeballs without magnification. Second target is 10 shots at a quick pace. Basically as quick as I could reset.

If you have the $$$ for extra uppers it is fine.

But 500$ per upper+ lower+ optics+ 5lbs of rails and lasers and you are getting close to if not over 1k$+

I have been accused of being an old fart so don't take what a say to serious.

but could just get a browning shortrac in .243 or .308 and call it good. sure they are a bit more than .223 per round but for the price of that extra upper you could use that $$$ on extra ammo or an ok scope.

nice groups in the shooting by the way.

Man there are a lot of really nice guns owned by you guys. It makes me feel ashamed when I look at my collection.

From the back:

Saiga 12, Remington 597, cheapo Maverick 88, .410 AR, 9mm AR, Winchester 30-30, .223 AR, Glock 22, Ruger SR9, RIA 1911, Taurus 738 TCP.

I buy stuff for terrible reasons but all of these guns run great and some of them being as cheap as they are shoot very well. The Taurus was actually a salvage buy from Joplin Missouri with the tornado. There was a huge super cheap salvaged gun sale at Mardens in Waterville featuring stuff from Joplin with NIB Sigs and stuff for like 400 bucks. Sadly I only had about 200 bucks so I bought my wife the pink TCP.

My 3 other ARs are still in works. Life gets expensive unexpectedly owning a house, and cars, and having a wife and kids. Sure puts a damper on projects sometimes.

Hows the RIA 1911 been for you? I used to carry a 1911 in the Army and I've wanted one ever since....since I got out the last time in 1992. I've never known anyone with a Rock Is. 1911 but the reviews are all pretty good. And that's all I can really afford...someday.

Well it is a budget 1911. Mine shoots steel cased russian 230gr ball like a champ and I am pleased with that. But you get what you pay for. The best deal right now is Ruger's SR1911 for 6-700 NIB. High quality 1911 for mid range price.

I like mine because I don't feel bad about abusing it. It is cheap, made in the Philippines, will probably have a flaw somewhere somehow, and are parkerized not blued. I used my as an adventure into 1911 gun smithing by playing with it and installing/fitting after market stuff. It is a lot of fun to shoot, not as cheap as the 9mm, but pretty fun. I think it is reasonably accurate but I also only have the GI sights so aiming is a pain beyond 50 feet. I bounced a tennis ball around with it at about 30 feet. The magazine it comes with sucks for the most part. Checkmates are regarded as the best way to ensure the RIA feeds hollow points. Mine feeds semi wadcutters and FMJs just fine and HPs half of the time. If I load them randomly throughout 4 mags of FMJs it functions flawlessly. A mag of straight HPs though is problem city.

.45cal Glock 21, Remington 760 30-06 and Mossberg 12g pump. Boo-yah! Lets blast some targets sometime. I may have miss-spelled mossberg.
