Mini-14 (.223)
Mini-30 (AK47 ammo)
Ruger PC9 (9mm)
Bennelli CX4 (9mm)
Ruger 10/22 (22LR)
Keltec 9mm
Hi-point 9mm carbine
Uzi (9mm)
M&P22 (AR that shoots .22)
M1 Carbine .30cal replicas start at $300+ for earlier Iver Johnsons and Universals. Current replicas are $800 plus. US surplus is $900+. Ammo is pricey.
Also, there are ARs out there starting at $600 new. This pretty much kills my need/desire for a Mini. ARs just fit me better, plus theres TONS for crap you can do to an AR (see Nate's)
I've tried a Mini-14, loved it.
I've tried the Keltec, didn't like it too much, awkward cheek position, less than confident bolt lock up.
I've tried the Hi-point carbine, loved it albeit heavier than you'd think it should be.
Uzi is not my thing.
Anything AR, even the AR 22s are very close to being ergonomically perfect.
Ok, so I've kinda been looking for the same thing. I've decided on the Hi-Point or Ruger PC9 or Benelli. The Hi-point is cheap (under 300 for a package deal), yet the Ruger will never lose its value. Benelli is stupid money. F-that! I also have the Ruger p-series pistol mags which also fit the PC9 carbine. The problem is the PC9 is usually around $500-$600, making the Hi-Point very attractive. There are stocks available for the Hi-point that make it look like the Benelli. 9mm is cheap, 9mm guns are not unless you get the Keltec or Hi-point.
