The unofficial GUN talk thread

Mmmm cosmoline. Theres been a recent import of SKSs all smothered in cosmoline. Maybe that's causing your issues.

I'm sure nate will give you a list of stuff to check

Has anyone had any experience with the newer h&r/nef single shot rifles? I've been thinking of getting the survivor model in .308

Disregard that last inquiry. I was reminded of an enfield 1917 in the back of the safe that I should finish toying with first. Might even sell something to fund that so I can finish

Talked kid I got it off they are aftermarket he was told it was the spring in the magazine causing the proublem but it does the same thing for both

. Figured I'd share sorry for crappy iPhone pics

I'm all set to resume the enfield 1917. First and foremost I'm buying a timney drop in trigger. Neither my father or I can hit the broad side of a barn at 100yds, but the triggerpull is seriously as long as my lc9 was (nate knows how long that is) so we blame the trigger. If that doesn't improve the accuracy I say screw it, if it does, synthetic stock and sims recoil pad and new scope. Maybe do something about the nonexistant bluing

I'd go if it wasn't too far away. But all I can afford to shoot is the mark2 target if I don't spend enfield money on bullets. But, timney trigger ~50, synthetic stock ~160 excitement level... wicked bub!

Take that sks to a gunsmith. Its a sharp lookin rig, def worth fixing it.

@matt,

have you tried a bunch of different ammo? My 1944 Enfield .303 would 'key-hole' (buttets hit sideways) out to 100yds then I couldn't find hits at 100yds while using cheap ammo (PPU Partizan russian made). Then I used S&B and it worked great, no key hole, 4" high at 100yds. I measured the bullets and found the PPU dia. was .308 and the S&B was .311 The .303 Brit is suppose to be .311. Just saying, not all .30cal manufacturers do the same thing.

have you tried zeroing at a shorter range and walking it out? Theres no sense in "fixing" it if you can tight group at 25 or 50yards. But if you can't keep a group at short range its possible the barrel is shot out.

Yah think I'm goin to drop it off at howels This weekend anyone know what there labor rate is ?

its ok at 25. decent at 50 and does a 2 inch + group at 100. I've read its common for the military trigger to adversly affect accuracy. found a tutorial on how to tweak the origional and if I screw it up I'll just buy the drop in.

Not sure of the actual rate. They had my M1 Carbine for a couple of weeks. They fully cleaned it, polished the chamber, finished pressing on my rear sight for me, greased all the movables, and then put three mags through it to make sure the problem was gone. Came out to $45.
