'04 Forester XT!!

I have done the outrigger set. They're good bushings. I had a metal on metal vibrating sound coming from my rear end. The outrigger plates are flexy and if you ever jack the car up by them, they will warp and contact the unibody. I took my plates off, blacksmithed them flat again. For a while I had my own ghetto bushings, but then I upgraded to the outriggers. Solved the issue.

I recommend race for every bushing except the rear diff carrier. I have the comfort outriggers but would like to replace them with race eventually.

Those outrigger bushings are stupid easy to install. Three bolts, done.

If you're still having clunking issues, I can help you figure it out since I've been chasing squeaks, clunks, and rattles on my horribly horribly abused RS. I'm the mount/bushing ghost whisperer.

Good to know Dan. I want to replace the rear diff bushings as well, but mine are different than the Impreza's. Mine need to be pressed in and out. I have heard of people cutting them out, but it's still a pain to put new ones in while in the car. And they don't make aftermarket ones, you have to get them from Subaru. But the sound I am hearing is coming from the passenger side outrigger area, and from what I've read from other people, this is what it is and these will cure it. Thanks for the info!!

So my wondeful ebay header that failed once before, and I had Mikey fix, has failed even worse this time. Big crack on the collector and up one of the pipes. So I will be putting a much better GT Spec UEL header and up-pipe on. Just gotta get it done before the group drive!!! I hate unexpected expenses.

(not really understanding the whole "Twitter" link above) Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

It was a decently easy job, but some words of wisdom. When you put on a new header, make sure you put the O2 censor back in. Or you'll say holy sh!t there's a bad exhaust leak!

Oh, and pics. Mandatory when one has three awesomebarus in their driveway.

Thanks again Chris!! Now I have to clearance that down pipe better, and figure out where the really weird whistle sound is coming from near the turbo!

Probably leaky up or dp gasket.

I won't re-use exhaust gaskets because it pisses me off when they leak and I have to replace them anyway...

Nope the gaskets are all good. It's that damn EGT sensor. I tried again to get it out thinking that the heat might help, but it won't budge. So I sealed it up with high temp silicone, so I'm going to want a little while and then see if it worked. And I was able to bend the lip of the tranny mount up just a little so the DP shouldn't hit anymore!

That's good. Yea, filling it with goop will probably do it. I'd probably fill it with goop, put some exhaust tape stuff over it. And then put a hole clamp around to keep it in place... I hate doing things the right way

Haha, I don't have any exhaust tape stuff. I would like to fix it right by removing it, and installing that plug, but the damn thing won't move!

Mike has a torch, right?

When you're up there have him heat it red hot and it should come out.

Yeah that's an idea. It is pretty reachable even with it in place. Then I could thread the plug in and never have to worry about it!

I was going to say most of your gaskets are fairly new so reuseing them is no big deal with a little forma gasket

So it seems I'm a bit special. I waited for the sealant to dry and took it for a spin and it still made noise. So I came back, popped the hood, and found that I should tighten the BPV bolts. So it's all better now, except that the DP still hits the tranny crossmember! I will be trying to clearance that a little better in the morning before I leave.
