Autocross 2008 Thread - Your plans, mods, and more for 2008

You and your crazy gauges. Its way more fun to tune by the seat of your pants (btw its an awesome gauge/tool).

And since this thread needs more Dr Evil.

No no no, I'm going to leave them alone and not actually witness them dying, I'm just gonna assume it all went to plan. What?

I'll have a real suspension setup someyear. Still working on my driver programing as Nigel would say. For now i will concentrate on a real alignment. Looking forward to negative camber and positive toe!

Sounds good! Except for 255's on an 8. With my experiences squishing a larger tire on a smaller rim is not a good thing no matter how you put it.

Max for an 8 inch wheel is a 235, realisticly a 225 is perfect.

The cons far outweigh the pros in squishing a fatty tire on a smaller rim. You "might" get more lateral grip and braking grip. But your steering response and stability will be far reduced compared to a proper sized tire/wheel combo. PLUS the tire will wear improperly as the section width is flexed to a point where it is buldged. Not by much but it might mean getting only 50 runs on a set compared to 70 or more on a proper combo. Especially being 17inch+ tires are large benjamin franklins!

A 255 R comp will have in the range of 9.8 - 10.5 or so of section width pending on the tire manuf. That size would have the "cantelevered" effect on the 8 inch wheel.... which is not good for a radial tire.

The NAPA bolts aren't what I'd call cheap either. Like $18ea bolt/nut.

Yeah Gabe, my plate is going to be really full. I've already been combining maps that i like. I'd love to see what you've done with AVCS or really your map in general. I've done a lot of playing around with them, but i've yet to flash anything. Mainly because I'd like to have a WBO2 when i do it at least, unless it's a proven map.

And yay for fake suspensions

That driver mod that I hear so much about... To bad there isn't somewhere you can buy it

. Alignment can do wonders I highly suggest setting up so you can at least measure toe so you can make changes and see what effect they have and dial in your car.

Sure crush my dreams of large meats :'(... ;D You are probably right I just get crazy ideas in my head after seeing people on NASIOC cramming 275s on 8" rims.

Until you start messing with your injector scaling, MAF scaling, or get real aggressive with your fuel table a WBO2 is really a luxury. Heres the current map timing is set pretty safe and could have 2*-3* added in the higher loads, especially without the intake temp scaling http://www.mediafire.com/?zsmew1furxq . Sweet those extenders for the rear strut adjusters? What springs are those? And do I see a torx 70 with amsoil svg? You'll have to let us all know how it works. I'm currently trying to get Joel to stock Extra-S for me ;D.

Good eyes man! Yeah there's a T70 in there, my rear strut extenders (which are seriously big pimpin!), the springs are Racecomp Engineering blacks. The are basically like the RCE yellows only they are designed for STI ride height. After my research i went with the pair and oddly enough the paint matches

it's like they're made for each other!

I was just looking at your map Gabe, do you have an o2 cheater or something? I noticed you've got the rear sensor enabled still.

That should be a good setup for you delicate tastes and street tires O0. Lots of people running the yellows and big sways and loving it in STX trims.

Huh.. actually thought I still had that turned off. I run a high flow cat and that has seemed to be enough to keep everything happy. I had one tank of gas were I keep throwing that code so I turned it off, but apparently turned it back on and forgot.

The AVCS map was an attempt to match advance to turbo efficiency and then I fine tuned it based on the results. I am running pretty low WGDCs so it may be a close enough map for the stock boost settings and for me this has helped air flow in the mid range quite a bit. Random, but figured I would explain the theory behind it.

Sure here you go

1. Drive there

2. Trade in RS for WRX

3. ??

4. Profit

Shame none of tuning softwarez cares about non-turboed subies.

(Yeah I know you don't live in OOB anymore, but I have no clue where you do live)
Ah.. but they do for 32 bit NA 2.5L subies now, possibly redline's old car even might be supported...

I believe my garage has been scheduled for some suspension install time before April :-)

That's sweet, I am sooo behind on the current dev... Catching up slowly but surely.

Yar my calender says the weekend of the 29-30, dependent on weather.... Don't see much point in doing the install if I can't even run summers for a test and tune session. Lets hope mother nature has gotten all the snow out of her system by then!!!

not as cool as you coil over boys but this is what im going to be running this year:

front to rear

B9 front sway 28mm

kart boy endlinks front and rear

prodrive springs + GR2's

redstuff's

strut tower bar

camber bolts

group N top hats

LSD

whiteline 24mm RSB

GReddy cat back

as for tires im thinking dunlop Z1 direzza's or khumo estas MX

thoughts on the tires?

That front is HUGE for the GC. And if it helps I'll probably still have more body roll than you
default_tongue.png
.

Hard to tell not driving, but I thought your car always felt pretty flat, stable, and neutral. A good set of tires should really help the quality setup you built up last year. Plus you have the best mod of all and it didn't cost you anything... the exodus of the shoe from sts. ;D

Looking forward to a very good GC battle in STS with nearly identical setup cars. It doesn't help that we plan and work on the cars together. :

The only major differences are going to be alignment specs (maybe) and driver. We might even have the same tires...!
