The Official MS Bike Talk Thread - motors need not apply

I hate the asshats who ride in the middle of the road when the white line & shoulder are clear & smooth. There's no reason.... only time i'll hog the lane is on a downhill when I can hit the speed limit or i'm going fast enough where safety says get out from the white line. But then again, I'm aware of traffic too and get outta the way when there are cars coming up behind.

I just stay in the woods...no traffic in there, although I sill managed to slow ShagginWagon down, hehe.
Far from it. You did great. One of the guys that used to race for us started off riding by rolling up to a 1" high stick, stopping, and falling off. THAT slowed me down. He got better fast. So will you. Once the bug bites you, it's all over.

New pedals in yet? Any pics of the sweet candy?!

hehehe... ride like the wind! There were a lot of roadies out last nite. I've noticed that they're not as friendly as they were in years past. I'd give the wave and get nothing back. WTF? Pass someone and say "hi" and get a minimal response back. Where's the love?
Seriously! They've turned into a bunch of cappuchino-sippin, italian-blurting, matching-spandex-wearing sheep. I get raisin for wearing my camelback!

The roadies down there would love to see me, then. When I do go out on my road bike, I still wear all my MTB baggies and jersey. :thebirdman:

:laughing4: I do the same, cause I like comfort. And when i am on the road, I only go 15-20 miles, then I get bored.. Hour on the road is enough for me. Biking solo is boring. Like playing ping pong by yourself.

Pedals are indeed in and installed. Shoes are (mostly) broken in, and I've done ~3 miles' worth of acclimating to the new setup. Doing my first singletrack stuff tonight with USMTyTy, actually.

No pics yet, but the black pedals look OH so nice on the bike. Pics as soon as I remember to take 'em

Nice! Careful on the granite back there. It can be a painful way to learn your pedals.

Thanks for the advice. Managed to tip over in my basement already - fell FLAT on my right side. Thankfully, the cement floor broke my fall.

You might try riding on the grass for a bit until you get the feel. It's pretty quick to get 80% of the way there, but you'll still have the occasional brain cramp... :laughing1:

WOOT! Finally took the time to figure out how to get on here with the BlackBerry. Currently sitting on a fence on the side of Stevens Ave waiting for peeps to arrive and ride.

Pedals aren't bad on the road, but could use some more practice getting into 'em. Out isn't a problem ('cept for that basement incident.)

Ha - ride was great, and for TyTy's first time in the woods (lately) on two wheels, he did quite well. Evergreen trails are still quick, even though I led Ty down the "black diamond" section with the large rock faces.

Crossed Brighton Ave and dove into the Portland Trails stuff. Which reminds me - we really should rake the glass out of the section just past the big bridge.

Found that people have put SAND down on the trail there (makes for sucky pedaling), and also found that PT has put down mulch on much of the Fore River trails (also makes for sucky pedaling.)

Bonus, though - they took out the posts on each side of the big bridge by Congress, so you can actually ride across it!

Like playing ping pong by yourself.
hahaha... true... I can ride for hours with 2 or 3 other peeps... but by myself i get bored, especially when doing the same route all the time. If I mix it up and go ride through town, T&A run around Back Cove, etc it makes it more exciting.

:laughing4: T&A run....

STM ride this week? I'd be happy to go out to Cemetary/ Sanctuary or tour d' SoPo

I'm up for a Tour de SoPo this week if you're interested in leading it! I can do any day but Thursday and I typically get home around 5p... so 5:30-6ish start time?

Let's try 6ish on Wednesday. Bridge traffic can be a grandma. Meet at the junction of Ocean and Sawyer?
