Now get it to stop raining so I can play in Bradbury again!
I think i'm going there tonight after work weather be damned!

You know what i want to find? A bike shop in Portland that doesn't suck.

Cycle Mania is the closest thing i've found but they just dont have jack for parts in stock.

I hope Gorham Bike goes out of business tomorrow. After going in to get my Bottom bracket replaced i'm told I need an appointment and that the wait is at least two weeks out. It's a bottom bracket, it's easy to fix, fine just sell me the right size....well they wont do that because they have to verify the right size and to do that i need to make an appointment for two weeks out. I picture a bottom bracket that's broken/bad to be kind of like a flat tire on a car...something you can just bring to the shop and get fixed. Maybe i've been spoiled by bike shops that give a raisin.

Well needless to say i just ordered over $250 in bike parts from an online retailer because the local bike shops are jerks or dont have jack for inventory. Way to drop the ball LBS.

ruggedman. Gorham Bike is horrible. I dropped my bike off to get my brake fixed, been there 4+ weeks. I stopped in there and said "Does it really take that long to order a part" I get "Yes it does" F them. So frustrated right now. Still no part, still no mountain bike at my house. I wish I had brought to cyclemania. And if I had known what the issue was,I would of done myself. I hate to trash talk a shop, cause I am sure other have had good experience, but this is not good customer service at all. If they told me it would of taken this long, I would of bougt part and had them replace..

Good luck in your search for a good shop. Please post if you find a good one..

poppa wheelies in Portsmouth,

KTP sports in Kittery

oh and one of the former techs from Poppa wheelies works in my office.. so inhouse tech is nice!

Well i really like Rose Bike in Orono, but the goal is to kind of keep it close ;-)

I'll badmouth Gorham bike and tell people to steer clear until the day they close...which shouldn't be too far off. Andrew go get your bike there, tell them they lost your business and dont get any money and take it to cycle mania.

I went to Allspeed once a year ago and they looked at me like I had an arm growing out of my ass so i haven't been back there either.

They should all meet Jim Rose and his staff in Orono and see how a real shop is run!

I like Back Bay Bikes on Forest Ave in Portland. They're not full of *hit like Gorham, Cyclemania, etc. They have the small shop feel too. Most shops won't have a huge selection of specific parts in stock but 4 weeks?! Damn! QBP can have parts to them in a week or less. If you know what you want/need send a PM to wannarex.

A friend of mine dropped his road bike off at Back Bay for new cables & a tune-up. They took a week, which at this time of year is understandable.

If bike is not done by Thursday, I am picking it up. One last chance, since I will not be able to ride the next few days. So, if that is the case, I will find the part myself and put it in. Shouldn't be too hard... Brake lever, Hayes. So, a matter of getting fluid in, which I have done, and installing....

If you need any help with hayes hydros i have some pretty good experiance with them and the bleed kit.

I'd be glad to lend a hand.

Mike i'll try back bay out for tuning up my roadie then. I need to have the hubs rebuilt and that's something i'd rather have a shop do. Plus it could use some brake work and those brakes are like voodoo to me, i only understand MTB stuff

Anyone have a rack that they want to unload? I need a rack (the kind that mounts to the bike to haul panier bags). THey're pretty pricey.

Thanks rugged I might be needing that help afterall..

Update.

As you know, went in yesterday and talked to some Yaaahooooo.. So, as I am weedwacking my girlfriends Mom;s Ditch(it was real long) I get a call from the bike shop. They explain to me that they had a problem with the part that came in. So they set up a mechanical brake. And I could pick up my bike whenever, and they would call when the other part comes in. And they said they adjusted my derailuer. I will not pay for that, cause I specifically said ONLY THE BRAKE> I know people that can tune my bike. So, bike might be picked up today, and never brought back.

I hope I am done bitching, cause I don't like it.

I know just enough to get into trouble. I would help out. It must be on a Sunday for me though.

If someone would PM me when you decide on a date, that would be great. Should we start a seperate thread for bike garage day, so we don't have to sift through all posts here??

Let's try to get this done within the next 2-3 weeks. It's already the middle of June. The 22nd or 7/13 could work for me.

I'd be down for that - pending date selected. We're in wedding/vacation season, and the wifey and I figured out last night that we have three (3) weekends available to us this summer.

Unrelated note - did anyone go to the "trail reclaiming" party in Pownal behind Bradbury last night?

I prefer mechanical disc brakes... Take it and run! haha!
I might too. Cause you blow a line on the trails you r f'ed.. I seriously might tell them, I may not be back... Good time to change my cell #, been meaning to do it anyways..
